  • Lost count the amount of times Willie Thorne has said 'top drawer' tonight. Mark Allen playing awesome Snooker!

      • Wow that was "top drawer" from Mark Allen tonight 6-1?!
I'm not fearing for Selby quite yet though, although the amount of times he's lost to players called Mark is strangely high.
Ryan Day had such a tough snooker to get out of in the final frame I even felt sorry for him when he missed it by a nano-meter.

        • It was great to see Mark Allen play such fantastic snooker. Probably the best I've ever seen him play. Some of his long pots seem downright suicidal, but when he's potting nearly 80% of them it's justified. Nothing Ryan Day could do tonight.
Dare I say this performance reminded me of a certain player in his younger days who celebrates his birthday today.

          • Really aggressive Snooker from Mark Allen tonight and it was great to watch! Mark Selby next and hopefully he can sustain that form when playing Selby.

            • Yes Willie wasnt happy with jan ver haas calling a miss against ryan day was he? I saw allen play yesterday and he was ok but tonight he raised his game superbly.

              • If that was Drago playing like that, you'd say he was punishing the table. Allen wanted to punish the opponent. He punched him up :snooker:

yeah, i thought the refs decision was awful, ryan missed the ball by a fag paper and it was a valid attempt. It doesn't say anywhere in the rule book you have to hit a ball for it to be a valid attempt, so I think the ref made a poor decision.

Sorry, but could you describe the situation in details, please? I didn't watch the game.

Basically, ryan day was in a very difficult snooker. He played a 3 cushion escape, and missed the red by literally a fag paper. Everyone assumed that the ref wouldn't call a miss, because ryan made a valid attempt, and came immensely close to hitting the red. The ref called it a miss, and put the white back in the snooker, then after 2 more attemps, ryan underhit the escape. That basically, cost him the match coz mark allen cleared from there. 6-1 to allen.

Ryan was snookered behind the green near the green pocket. He hit the top cushion, right side cushion and tried to lay on a red near the bottom black cushion and missed it by a cigarette paper and it was called a miss. A pro may hit it 2/10 so it was a great effort. Ultimately it cost Day the match because he left the next but one attempt short and a red into the middle pocket for Mark Allen to clear up.

                        • But the cue ball didn't touch the red, did it?

No it missed it by the narrowest of margins. I mean it was SO close.

If the right decision was made, the match could till be going now, coz allen cleared up after day's 3rd attempt

                              • It was such a good attempt by Ryan espeically considering the difficulty of the Snooker you do have to question Jan Verhaas's judgement on this occasion. Still not the first time this kind of thing has happened and i'm sure it wont be the last
