I wasn't realy impressed by Allen. His cue ball positioning was very poor, but somehow he poted his way out of trouble each time. He was allways on the wrong side of the blue, or too strong for the blue, so he had to play with the baulk colours too many times. In the first frame he poted 9 reds with colours and scored only 45 points, because he was never in a prime position with the cue ball, and had to make loads of recovery pots. In the last frame he poted an insane opening red which is good to watch, but very unserious for such a big and important tournament. His game tonight reminded me of Wenbo. Accurate, but poor. If i was in Allen's place i would think very hard tonight how to improve my cue ball positioning, becasue this pot success can be achieved once in a lifetime.

Mark Allen is a very good player but theres something about his game that makes me think he might not be able to push the top 8?? I dont know what it is and hope im wrong.Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.

And also, how could Ian Verhaas call a miss on that attempt from Day?! He showed a very poor sense for snooker in that ocasion. This was a textbook example where a foul without a miss should be called. Ian is loosing his credit in my eyes. He made a crucial mistake in the deciding frame in the UK Championship final as wll, when he didn't see that Murphy touched the green with his cue. If he saw that, maybe Fu would have been reigning UK champion.

I am very surprised to read that so many people think it was the wrong decision. It was an easy call. Plenty of reds, reasonably placed around the table. Tough position behind the green, but a huge target to hit. Ryan Day deliberately played for a specific red, dead weight - that's a miss right there. Any other call would have been preposterous.

Good call Odrl and, whether its right or not, I think it would be called a miss everytime by every referee on the circuit.Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.

The way i think about it when deciding weather on not to call a miss is to think: would the player have played the shot the same way if not hitting the object ball ment loss of match? and if the answers yes then dont call the miss.
In this case i definitly think its a harsh call as i dont see how he could have played it any differently.New Zealands biggest snooker fan

A miss most definitely. Any of those shots he failed to make contact if played with a lot more power could have gotten him out of the snooker. Ryan chose not to do that for fear of leaving a sitter to Mark.
With so many reds on the table it wasn't that difficult to escape. Play with a good amount of pace and miss the blue.
Ryan didn't try his best to escape from the snooker although he certainly tried his best to escape from the snooker and land safe."We have met the enemy and he is us" - Pogo
