  • Masters First Round Discussion

So, I thought it would be good if I made a First Round Dission post. I realise that we don't have a forum for the Masters yet but hopefully this will get moved to the new one when it's created. Meanwhile, I'm hoping for a great tournament. Perhaps we'll see a new star in the making!

My favourite for the tournament is Ryan Day. Can't wait for tomorrow

I'll be wanting Ricky through as well as Maguire

This tournament is mostly won by a top 5 player. History over the last seasons brought ROS, Higgins and Selby as winners. I cant see Day winning it. Although this season its as open who would win anything, most unpredictable. Ok, a long shot, Maguire!

I feel this could be one of the best Masters ever, with some great matches in prospect. My money is on Ronnie quite literally infact!

I find that with Ronnie, it's very much 50-50 on whether he'll win and I don't find this ever changes. It's always within this parity, I find and never 60-40 or 70-30 etc.

Lets hope so, but I cant imagine This Masters to be better than the 2004/2005/2006 finals. Drama, genius and finally drama. (Hunter/ROS/Higgins the winners). None of the players at present are in such form as those winners were at the time. I hope to be wrong.

Will be interesting to see if O Sullivan can avenge his defeat against Joe Perry after losing in last month's uk.
IMO It's the tie of the round!

Good thinking JiangJu good thread. I would like to see a new winner especially Day/Carter/Trump. Obviously my 1st choice as my name might suggest is Ronnie although as JiangJu says it all depends which Ronnie turns up. I dont think it could match the Hunter-Ronnie 2004 final but Id love to think it could do. Im looking forward to Monday too as im going to see Allen-Trump then the Murphy match afterwards. Enjoy the tournament everybody.

Once again I'm having my fingers crossed for Hendry! But anyone but Day wins I'll be reasonably happy.

I have nothing against him other than I can't say I've ever really enjoyed watching him play. He seems to have a habit of spoiling a potentially close, exciting quarter or semi by cracking up and play below par.

But then again, should he bag the title I'll be the first to congratulate, although I'll bet £1000 he'll never win anything big.

I think Ronnie will have a very hard time against Perry but if he somehow gets through I think only Maguire would be able to stop him at what it seems to be his favourite tournament in the past years.

Keep an eye on Carter though, as he said he'd be focusing mostly on the UK, the Masters and the World Championship this year.

I'm hoping for a Mark Selby-Ali Carter final.

Although not in the best of forms, Dott is playing a very positive and attacking snooker. Great to watch.
