He probably just wants to avoid it, and is gambling on getting the wild card. He's already had some visa problems this season, I bet he doesn't want to go through all that again if it's not necessary.

Well I'd imagine he is getting his visa/work permit/residence permit/whatever just once per season, would be too complicated to do it before every tournament. So probably he is hoping for a wild card. Or maybe has planned something else for January already...

thing is hoping or not its not guaranteed and wouldnt getting some snooker in before the UK benefit him.

obviously there could be another reason early next month its the Asian Games and snooker is involved in that and quite possibly the chinese team wanted Wenbo to do some promotional work with them prior to the Games ?
