i dont think anyone would begrudge him a good run at wembley, but i dont think it matters if he doesnt. i tend to view wildcard rounds as a bit of an exhibition before the proper tournament begins, something for the local fans to enjoy and get them warmed up for the week ahead. its great when stars of the future are given the chance too, like the 16 yr old Ding got. but a healthy mix is fine by me. Did they not have 3 wild cards one year?
that would work for me, an up and comer, an old favourite or even a celeb amatuer and the winner of the qualifier( who despite all the arguing is the only one who is there on merit). this ensures everyone gets something out of it.
