i dont think anyone would begrudge him a good run at wembley, but i dont think it matters if he doesnt. i tend to view wildcard rounds as a bit of an exhibition before the proper tournament begins, something for the local fans to enjoy and get them warmed up for the week ahead. its great when stars of the future are given the chance too, like the 16 yr old Ding got. but a healthy mix is fine by me. Did they not have 3 wild cards one year?

that would work for me, an up and comer, an old favourite or even a celeb amatuer and the winner of the qualifier( who despite all the arguing is the only one who is there on merit). this ensures everyone gets something out of it.

Watch this vid from 2:10 onwards. This is how snooker should be introduced, that speaker had it weighed off "the Wonderfull Whirlwind of London Town, Jimmy White!"None of this "lets get the boys on the baize" crap. That just makes the game sound like its being run by a bunch of half wits.

me 2 because the idiots are as clueless as it gets when posting these drivel.

nobody has said how can unknowns become known without a chance to people getting to know them.

in 1980 Jimmy White was a unknown.

in todays TV Climate Jimmy might never have got the chance.

That whole introduction farce now is one of the most embarressing parts of snooker. all those stupid nicknames that idiot bloke has knocked up are a bore. Is he supposed to be entertaining?

As for the wildcard, it was the right choice. I personally think Jimmy will probably get beat and even if he does, for those few hours, we will have Snooker back and it will be interesting and worth the license fee.

Snooker is about entertainment and by that, i mean the atmosphere is a big part. Even though the players are far better nowadays, the attendances and viewing figures suggest the majority want that atmosphere and the characters back. We want snooker on t.v all the time and full houses. We wont be getting that with the current top 16.

            Dear God you serious ?

the only reason he won was other players didnt take it all that serious where as Jimmy gave it everything out of desperation because he knew it was his only hope of TV Matches.

Another point is that he is still a big draw and will put bums on seats and finally this may well be his last chance at a major event so surely he of all people deserves one last chance to shine for his fans in London and around the world for his services to snooker down the years at the very least.

The argument is very strong for other players like Walden etc.,
But for this poster there is only one Whirlwind of London town and I hope he enjoys himself and does well. :snooker:
I don't think we really disagree actually. What annoys me is that over the last years the wildcards have alledgedly been awarded on merits, not on promotional value and if value is the criterium then Jimmy doesn't deserve it in particular in the light of his withdrawal from the UK championship in favour of a TV reality show. Now if the authorities were candid about their reasons, and those reasons are merely to put bums on seats, OK. It's the hypocrisy that bothers me.
Other than that I have seen Jimmy play life twice this season already. And frankly I do hope he can put a good performance. But I do know it could be adreadful one aswell and I don't like the idea. Jimmy's career and love of the game deserve no humiliation.

Im glad im not the only one that thinks like this of the introductions these days. Its more important than people think and hopefully Barry Hearn will have recongnised this and have it changed for the forthcoming tournements.

Something more along the lines of how Boxers are introduced instead of how a darts player is introduced is much more appropriate.
