  • Masters 2010 - QF Discussion

    Thursday 14 January
    13.30
    QF1 – Ronnie O'Sullivan v Peter Ebdon
    19.00
    QF2 – Mark Williams v Shaun Murphy

    Friday 15 January
    13.30
    QF3 – Stephen Maguire v Ryan Day
    19.00
    QF4 – Mark Selby v Mark Allen

So, how does everyone see the first match going?

They met in the 2nd round of the UK with O'Sullivan winning convincingly. I think he's playing about the same as he did then. Ebdon is probably a bit better, but still not near his best. With this arguably being O'Sullivan's favourite venue, and not one of Ebdon's best, I'd make O'Sullivan a reasonably strong favourite. His patience seems to be alright again, and he showed a lot of determination to come back against Robertson. He seems up for competing tactically as well. Ebdon had a slow start against Fu, but then got going towards the end. I don't have the feeling that he's playing well enough to compete with O'Sullivan today, but you never know. If he ups his game a bit and takes his chances, it could be a close one.

    I've predicted a 6-3 here.

Well i do not think Ebdon's recent defeat against O'Sullivan in the UK last month is going to be playing Peter's mind too much today. I was quite impressed with how Ronnie turned things around in his match against Robertson. Ebdon started to show some of his old form against Fu but the question is can he sustain it?

I hope both players hit top form this afternoon and if so it could quite easily go either way.

Still i will go for O' Sullivan to win 6-3..

The highlight for the QF matches should be the battle of Williams/Murphy and the Marks' affair.

ROS (90% winning chance) and Maguire (80% winning chance) will probably go to the semi. That's what I feel

I wouldn't bet on O'Sulivan there. Peter Ebdon is not his favourite opponent. From the other matches i think Murphy vs Williams will be a cracker, because they showed great form in the first round. Still i predict a narrow win for Shaun there. As for tomorrow i think Selby and Day will win confortably. Mark Allen was not that good,on some other day with that form he would lose 6-1 to Higgins. Maguire on the other hand looked much weaker than Ryan Day in the first round. Yes, Joe Perry didn't play at all yesterday, but Day scored heavily every time amongst the balls. Will be interesting, that's for sure.

I think Maguire and Selby wont have easy wins if they win at all of course

I'm looking forward the Murphy-Williams clash the most. Mark played quite well against Ali, especially the beginning of the match was great. Obviously Murphy is hitting the ball well. It's interesting to can they produce the same standard as they had in their previous matches. I predicted Shaun to prevail 6-4 but I hope Mark wins this..

Maguire v Day and Allen v Selby should be good matches also, Maguire WON'T be playing as bad as he did against King, I'm certain of that.

It's very evident even at this early stage of the match that Ebdon MUST take his opportunities when they have been handed to him, otherwise O' Sullivan is going to punish him heavily just like in that first frame..

So it's another slow start for Ebdon. I wonder if he has another gear, but it doesn't look like it.

ROS is a "punisher". As I siad earlier, his chances to win against Ebdon is 90% meanwhile only 8% for Ebdon. Only 1% of luck needed for each player.

Majestic Snooker from O'Sullivan - he's timing the ball so well and looks to have total control over this match.

I still wouldn't count Ebdon out though - well not just yet..
