  • What an AWESOME final! Great Snooker by both players.

How different it might have been if Ronnie turned down attempting the cut on the Green left handed in the penultimate frame..

    Well done Mark!

In the 2004 Masters final, Ronnie was leading Hunter 7-2 with awesome play (four consecutive breaks over 70 and another 80 in the first 7 frames) and later 9-7 and lost 10-9. Hunter's comeback from 1-6 down included 4 centuries and and 82 break.

Admittedly, cross-comparing matches is not very rewarding.
You have just cross-compared this match to every other comeback in snooker history, haven't you?

I honestly thought he would have tried cutting it into the other corner !

          • Great match and some great snooker all week.

This Masters final was only bettered by Higgins v ROS in 2006 I think.

Indeed, I know players these days love to play all out attacking shots, but that was such a tough shot to play at any time, let alone at that stage in a final.

Well played to Mark though, to come back like that takes some real heart.

                    • Great final, and at the end the best man won it. This tournament changed my oppinion about Selby for good.
As for O'Sulivan, he shouldn't shake hands needing only two snookers to win. Mark was left with choice of two nervy pots on the reds. Non of them were gimmies.

                      • Agree that Ronnie seemed hasty in conceding...would love to have seen the match fully conclude. Also thought he was going to try that green in the opposite corner!

                        Superb final!

                        • Great final, indeed.

I couldn't believe Ronnie decided on cuting that green... but the most important is that Mark didn't miss his chance and won the match, nice revenge Mark!

PS: Hi there, it's my first post here, I hope you forgive me my bad english :P

                          • He did something similar against Higgins in the UK. I guess that's just the way he is. You'd need to drag Peter Ebdon away from the table when he only needs a couple of snookers, but some players just don't want to prolong that frustration when they know deep down that the match is lost.

                            • Ronnie said in one of the short bbc interviews that the rule he'd like to change in snooker was being able to concede when snookers are not even required. He just doesn't like playing for them much it seems.

But then he'd probably like to be able to concede at anytime at all
