Looks like a very tough draw for Ronnie and Graeme Dott is seeded number 1. Fu, Selby or Swail could possibly win their quarter. Makes for very interesting reading.

Looking at the draw Jamie jones could go a few rounds

I think Jamie Jones could reach the 1st round (last 48) but it would be a huge suprise if he beat Ding though. Jamie Cope doesn't have too bad a draw and I reckon he could beat Murphy this time after losing so unluckily last time in Malta. I can't bloody wait

My suspicion has once again been confirmed. Anthony Hamilton and Ian McCulloch are jinxed.

Hamilton has made it back into the top 16 but with this draw, it really wasn't worth the effort. Don't think he stands a chance against Mr. Ding.

And poor Ian, I'm sure you are aware of his unfortunate incidents in the past. In 2004, he seemed to have secured his place among the top 16. The only way he would drop out was for Graeme Dott to reach the finals of the WC - which miraculously happened. And then last year, being among the top 16, but having to play qualifying rounds because Murphy became World Champion. This is more than bad luck, it seems. Anyway, Stephen Hendry isn't the easiest draw to make a good start into the 2006.07 season.

It would be no suprise for me if Jamie Jones beat Ding. Every player has there off days and Jamie Jones is more than able of destroying Ding.

Although it is technically there is no defending champion as it is a new ranking tournament, I think it is a bit of a shame that Matthew Stevens was not installed as the no.1 seed, since he is, in reality, the defending champion.

Yeah I guess but it wasn't a ranking event. I know what you mean though... it does seem a bit unfair.

I don't think it should matter that it wasn't ranking last year, everybody with a decent chance of winning (ie, the top 16, plus Murphy, Ding, Robertson) got a chance to play and Matthew beat them all off. For what it's worth (and let's face it, it isn't worth all that much), I'd have liked to see him installed as no. 1 seed too. It's just pedantic to say it isn't the same event as last year.

I wonder if he'll be announced as defending champion by the MC?

I agree that Matthew Stevens should be seeded 1st but because he wasn't I would have thought that Stephen Hendry was seeded 1st. It seems there isn't many perks about being number 1 except for the prestige as it doesn't seed you 1st for any events.

The sad thing is that Murphy and Robertson are in the top 16. So it's only the seeded players plus Ding.
