              • The way he's playing, I reckon I could beat Mark Williams at the moment!!

As for Higgins, not playing like much of a world champion this season is he?!

And the week of snooker is over for me. xD Seriously, having only one real favorite in a sport is not fun. Especially if they don't win, as Higgins really hasn't won much since the start of the 2006/2007 season, aside from the World Championship. On the other hand, it's getting less disappointing/annoying with every loss, as you start to get used to it.

I can't say Fergal didn't deserve to win though. At least he could make some proper breaks, those of Higgins were really bad. He could hardly get breaks higher than 20. While that may be sufficient for a few frames, it won't cut it all the way through.

Oh well, it's easier having Federer as your favorite in tennis, like me, since he wins all the time. *-*

Yes, my lucky dip player has just knocked out John Higgins.
Brilliant peformance, a 142 and 114 to clinch the match. Well done Fergal!
The Irish crowd must be happy, with Doherty, Allen, Greene (well they consider him Irish) and O'Brien through.
Shame about Williams, he seems to be going from bad to worse. Gutting to see such a great player reduced to this.

hell yeah, aren't we federer fans so spoiled?
I got more than one fav in snooker but somehow they all feel like having to drop out early in the tournaments this season to spare me the agony of going through more than one match biting my nails cause I want them to win so badly ^^

                            • Higgins will come good for the UK, I doubt Fergal would have beaten him in a best of 17.

Yeah we are. xD Oh well, Higgins is no Federer of course. Higgins is a very good player, but sometimes just isn't quite sharp or in-form enough, though he played brilliantly at the World Championship. I don't think he's going to end up like Williams or anything. Williams actually plays really bad. This was just one bad match from Higgins, as he actually played very well against Selby and Fu if I recall correctly. They were just even better. But this was just bad of course. He made too many mistakes and O'Brien made good use of them.

Now Federer on the other hand....well, he lost eight times this year and that's actually a lot in comparison to past years. Still, he won three grand slams. That's why he's still the most dominant player there is: he's always there at the most important tournaments. He might've had some hickups in the somewhat less important tournaments, but at the slams, he's always in good form and is just really consistent since his first Wimbledon title.

Tennis and snooker are hardly comparable in terms of their player fields, of course. Snooker has a far, far wider field of possible tournament winners and the difference in quality between the top players (top 16/32) of snooker is simply a lot smaller than the top of tennis.
