What really irritates me is that the players have apparently been crying out for more earning opportunities and playing opportunities in order for them to be proper professionals. Yet some don't turn up for either event!

I make the 15 pros missing to be:

Higgins, Robertson, O'Sullivan, Ding, Allen, Hendry, S Davis, Judge, Wattana, Morris, Delaney, Kachaiwong, Saengkham, Tirapaipongboon, P Davies

interesting that all Thai players not entered.

come on Ding you better enter events 3 and 4 - you could become no.1 if you play enough!

To some degree I understand those players. If I was a pro player I'd like to spend a proper summer holiday too. Especially if you have family or you're from a far-away land like China or Australia (you don't want to fly 15h or so to spend a weekend there).

But if they don't participate when the season gets going then there's room for criticism. However, with not competing in these events they would only harm themselves as there is plenty of ranking points available and the new system doesn't guarantee a place in every tournament for the whole season the way that the old one did. So I think when the summer's over we'll see Hendry and Ding and Robbo playing there too.

Of course I don't mind players taking holidays, but the last season finished about 7 weeks ago and for some players before that. I would have thought if a player wanted to take their career seriously, they would be uping the pace of practice at this time of year in order to be in the best shape for the season.

Most people book holidays more than 7 weeks in advance. The PTC series was a relatively late addition to this year's schedule. I think you'll find that, with time, the events will have more top level entrants just as with time there will be better organisation and facilities, as the green shoots start to blossom.

"if you build it, they will come" goes the line from Field of Dreams......

There doesn't appear to be any changes made to the format, still going to be played over 3 days at the same venue, so I would be expecting pretty much the same disastrous outcome of 2-3am finishes, players having to hang around for hours waiting to get on. I wouldn't have thought it was too difficult to put right by adding an extra days play.

                      I hope i'm wrong.

majority of missing players are overseas being away from home a lot as it is surely you dont begrudge them family time.

And he can drop out of top 16 before he got anything out of getting inside. Robertson has just become father, so quite understandably prefers family.
