  • Players Tour Championship - A question

    Hello there,

If someone from a country outside the UK who is an amateur would like to participate to the player's tour championship (there are 32 places for amateurs) what is the procedure?

How can he book a place?

    Cheers

    Gerbisto

Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I think you can pre-enter the events over the internet.

After your post I went into world snooker and found an application form.

But under which criteria are the 32 amateurs decided? Is it first come first served?

All amateurs play in qualifiers for the main event normally the day before (but PTC 3&4 qualifiers are being played weekend of 24th and 25th July as the Academy has other stuff going on the days before those events.

I know what Gerbisto is meaning I think. Originally in the details of the PTC it said that AFTER Event 1 the field would be made up of up to 96 MT players with the top amateur players on the PTC Order of Merit making up the balance of 96 plus 32 making a field of max 128. Haven't done the countup so don't know if the entrants are 128 or more for Event 3. If it is more, I presume they are allowing however many Amateurs to enter.

They'll let as many as they can get pay to enter, and then just play qualifying round after qualifying round to get down to the numbers they need. The last I heard the entrance for PTC3 was around 170.
I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

so why is james wattana not in the maindraw of ptc3. this should be the 88 pros entering + 8 top amateurs in ptc ranks + 32 qualifiers???

The 96 seeds are from the Order of Merit based on PTC 1 and 2. Presumably Wattana isn't in the top 96?

Thanks for your comments, I suppose that the comment that they'll allow as many amateurs as possible to get more money makes perfect sense.

But, should a guy whose never picked a cue and has money to burn decides to play would they still accept him?

They've probably never heard of a lot of amateur players from the UK let alone other countries, so until someone turns up and demonstrates how well (s)he can play, how are they going to know who to refuse?

They won't refuse any players on ability or lack of it, the only reason for refusing entry would be disciplinary.

I think the EPTC events will be slightly different. In order to have a decent number of local players in the main draw (for EPTC1 - German players), there may be 16 places available through a local qualifying event. This is what happens in overseas PDC darts Players' Championship events (which Hearn has based the PTC on).

I may be wide from the mark though!

seems like they switched james wattana and luca brecel. ie wattana seeded to final stages and brecel to qualify against adam duffy (match held over due to the vienna tournament brecel is involved)
