    powersnooker

guys this is going to happen, it has some serious money behind it including an endoresement from world snooker. the promoter was involved with michael flatley so should know all about putting on an event. the players may need a few private soft launches though as rules seem pretty complicated!

Imagine soccer where a kick from a certain spot would give 3 points, another from that place would be 2 and overthere, it'd be 4.

      That'd be basketball :P

Having read all the rules, I reckon if you pot the centre ball first then clear up potting blacks with reds and potting every ball from behind the baulk line, and do this within two minutes of your first pot.... The maximum break is

        1 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        2 + 28 +
        8 + 12 + 16 + 20 + 24 + 28

        or 377

Don't get me wrong, I am, and always have been, a fan of different formats (on the BBC site I advocated a round robin based tournament as well as an expanded single-frame tournament)

I just think that this is way too complicated.

Add to that the fact that ITV ruins every sport it touches and there you have my thoughts

              Where can we buy tickets?

Heck, do we'd even need snooker at that point?

Like with the World Open, they are only testing the waters with this. If it dosen't work I'm sure it'll be scrapped.

It doesn;t interest me much, but neither did Pot Black and nor does the premier league. So long as the Master, World Champs and the Uk champs remain intact,l don't mind what happenbs to the rest.

I am rather amazed at reaction to this event. I agree that a 100 break with 9 reds (even though there are doubling up opportunities) will be difficult to achieve but think about how this game could be quicker and easier on the eye for spectators.

                      1. If breaking you are rewarded by hitting the balls hard and making 2 balls hit the cushion as you stay at the table. There will be players practicing how to do this now but strategically you gain an advantage if you can do it consistently and not just slam and hope.

                      2. The double up and power play time slot mean you need to pot as much as you in that time.

                      3. Dont be fooled by believing that this is not a game of points. Imagine having a lead, you would likely want to protect it when no pot presents itself. I can still see room for the safety game.

If players think that it wont catch on, then dont take part in a comp which offers £35k, If the TV broadcasters, promotors and sponsors see a return, it will continue to happen!

Good luck all those concerned with this! (although I think 'slashers' naked lady snooker will have my vote, until the equality argument rages and we see naked men snooker, which at that point I turn back to the 'power snooker'!)

You didn't have the reds potted from behind the baulk line. I make the maximum break (with a freeball to start)
                        2 + 14 +
                        2 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        4 + 28 +
                        8 + 12 + 16 + 20 + 24 + 28 = 410.

Thus 410 is the maximum break.

Well done, but if you get a century, you will get a bonus of 50 points. So the max should be 460. No one is ever going to clear the table in 2 minutes, not even Ronnie can do that. And even if someone can play that fast, he will be running up and down the table to try to get the balls into baulk area. It makes snooker looks like baseball and I think this will be very funny.

Surprised at the amount of negativity about this. It sounds like great fun. It's not replacing Snooker, it's basically a brand new competition. Infact, you could go as far as saying it's a brand new sport, similar to how 9 ball evolved from normal Pool. Personally, i find 9 ball far better.

It's a new concept and has it's own rules. Everyone will pick these up pretty quickly. The rules will be explained throughout, no doubt. If you have played 9 ball, you would have needed the rules explained and i'm sure they were picked up quickly.

This isn't replacing Snooker, it's promoting it.

I agree, this will be great fun! Though there are too many rules to make it very approachable. I'm all for any 9-ball type game which will get new people in.
