Really enjoyed it. I can see this getting bigger, I Think the crowed were a bit too noisey at times but it didn't seem to effect the players. It would be interesting to see if the players would be so easy going if there was a hundred grand first prize?
The singing and shouting made this event entertaining. If we get this once or twice a year(but not the proposed 6 times as it would become boring) then I am all for it - so long as it doesn't overtake 'proper snooker'. Those tournaments (Masters, World Ch.,World Open ,UK,China etc)have to remain as they are.
Well that'll teach me to pre-judge. As my last post suggested I hated this before I'd even seen it, but having managed to catch the last couple of frames tonight I think I need to eat my words. I agree with belfast - in that the crowd were just a little too raucous - but if felt so current and, dare I say it, cool.
A few years ago, during Premier snooker, when players were talking about introducing that game's shot clock into the traditional game, my heart sank, but I can see now that in a stand-alone tournament like this it really works. I'd love to hear some of the regular BBC commentators on this too.
Incidently, is this totaly independent to the WPBSA?
"Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"
I found this pretty entertaining stuff today but they need to make a few changes:
1) Get rid of that horrible coloured cloth and put on the classic one
2) Although a bit of noise coming from the crowd is good, the big oooh as a player lines up a power ball is over the top
3) Get a decent channel to do coverage of it. The ITV commentator (think it was Jim Rosenthal) was appalling. Didn't know a thing about snooker. And then the prizegiving at the end was a shambles. Matt Smith didn't have a clue what he was doing.

1) I thought the cloth really worked, SD7792. I think we have to accept that they're trying to move away from the traditional game as much as possible, so things like cloth style and colour are going to be the first things to be changed.
2) Agreed.
3) Again, this is 'casual' snooker. A formal presentation would have been out of character. I though Matt Smith was okay - said the right things, asked the right questions...

I have to disagree on the cloth. To be honest, I wouldn't have minded a blue or red like on pool tables etc. but that green was horrible. Didn't suit TV and just looked like a normal cloth gone wrong. I agree with you about the style, I have absolutely no problem with branding on it.
Yeah I suppose I was a bit harsh on ITV, their coverage was fairly decent. It's hard to compare any snooker coverage to that of the BBC. And yeah to be fair Matt Smith did ask good questions but the presentation was too casual. Whipping cheques out of a jacket pocket during a presentation is a bit stupid and Matt Smith standing in the way of Ding collecting his cheque. It just looked like it hadn't been practiced at all.
But overall, very impressed with the format. I don't want it to affect the proper game or the World Championships but I do think it should be run alongside the proper version of the game, such as the way Cricket operates nowadays.

Are you serious
Biggest pile of smelly stuff ever
I think it made the event different which was the whole point, no? If this happens once or twice a year and doesn't disrupt proper snooker I don't see a problem.

Hell no! I really liked it, but only as a stand-alone thing.
Sadly - and I do mean sadly - I think we all have to accept that radical changes to the snooker we all know and love is inevitable. This has been too big a change in format to convince the traditionalists (and I include myslef there) but I think it has gone some way to suggesting that there's a potentially huge market out there for 21st century snooker.

over my dead f*****g body
if Barry or any other tit wants a fight ill give them one hell of a fight nobody and i do mean nobody going to ruin Snooker while ive got breath in me.
I was in attendance at the arena. At first the chanting and singing was quite annoying but you get caught along in it if you are there. Probably watching it at home you cant get the atmosphere properly. Obviously wont replace the main game of Snooker but would be happy to see it again, would like the players to interact with the crowd more though.
