I wrote to the WPBSA RE a new snooker game , two years ago, mine was very similar, to powerball but for the powerball !! , i suggested , reds and colours within a diamond, smash them open, ball in hand for fouls , THERE WAS MORE, BUT ILL DEFER ....

The basic gist i suggested is to try and get the Americans to play , for the true global appeal , i predict that powerball or a similar incarnation will be played on nine ball tables in the next few years , snooker tables by there size do not appeal to the Yanks , alas no global sponsorship. so it will be next year still pukka pies and not McDonalds .

As for playing this at an amateur level , time limits, power play, double points , etc ,etc , most people in my club after ONE PINT cannot add points to the score board .

I'm not an expert but if at the end 99,9 % of the world is no longer interested in nowadays snooker then indeed something has to happen. So let's try this out.

I don't think the rules will be too hard to understand. We'll get used to it. Actually I'm looking forward to it, not sure whether it will be shown in this part of the world though.


It is just a variant of the original game, it is not a substitute. It is like we have a 100m sprint, and also have the 110m hurdle, one will not kill the other.

Twenty twenty , cricket has practically ruined cricket , at an international level test sides like India are more concerned with the lure of 20/20 cash than test cricket . In this country its the end of the 40 over game , and four day crouds are down, if power snooker takes off , in this quick fix society we live in it will kill most events as well , bar the Uk and world championship .

rules alook a bit complex at first glance but well, I think we need eveything to boost our game. I'm not convinced it would work but we can still give it a try. Attacking player such as Ronnie or Robbo would certainly enjoy the competition.

Test Cricket was dead long ago. The only team that will fill up a ground is England and i doubt that will last much longer. The Ashes is the only worthwhile competition. It's similar to 4 day County Championship games. No one is bothered. The crowds have always been very sparse.

1.) Two reds need to hit a cushion on break.
2.) Potting the power ball means 2 minutes of double points.
3.) Any foul means ball in hand for player anywhere on table.
4.) 20 point bonus for 50 break, 50 point bonus for century break, 100 point bonus for maximum.

Done. That is all the additional rules they need. Everything else can just be normal snooker rules.

Also have you seen the ticket prices. A bit high for my liking considering for the World Championships it was £51 for a whole day (three sessions) until the quarters. I hope they sell, it will be sad to see a near empty arena at the O2.

Would there be any point in giving out bonus points for a maximum? The frame would be won anyway, wouldn't it?

As I read the set-up, the players play for half an hour, so if a frame is finished they carry on with frame 2 etc. Someone like Ronnie could get through umpteen frames in 30 minutes.

Does anyone understand how they will get 8 hours play out of this?

First Round Knock Out: 4 matches = 2 hours
Semi-finals: 2 matches = 1 hour
3rd/4th playoff: 1 match = 30 mins
Final: 1 match = 30 mins

I make that 4 hours. Am I missing something? Is there 4 hours of pre-match talk, adverts etc.

What I want you to do before you post another useless question on this site is stop, take a breath, go back and read the thread you are posting to again (Thats is if you have read it in the first place) then if you can not find the information you are looking for use the search button, then if you still can not find what you are looking for ask.
