Could not stand it!!! Sat down to watch a few of the games and was reaching for the mute button in minutes! I like the silence and tention that normal snooker can hold, and this just does not do it for me. 15 minutes and i'd turned it back over to my daughters Cbeebies....was more entertaining.

All i could make out were about 3 guys who had too many bitter shandy's, a horrid cloth, weird rules and just did'nt like it.

If i want banter and shouting ill go play pool in a pub. If i want a tension driven game with suspense then ill play or watch snooker.

If you want to bring the game back then stop the clubs from closing. Pointless reviving a game that no-one can go and play!!

Well I was doing it to support him myself, dunno about the other guys. There wasnt really much mick being taken out of Ding, quite alot for Murphy though.

I thought the rules and setup of the game were good, but have to say that the crowd really did spoil it for me too.

The singing was one thing but the constant repeating of the same songs, sometimes with different players names in them granted, was incredibly annoying.

Judging by some of the songs there were a lot of the darts crowd in. Basically people hadnt gone for the snooker, they had gone to get drunk and the snooker was a secondary attraction....a bit like when people go to the darts.

That said, Power Snooker isnt really aimed at people like us who already love the game. It is designed to try and get new fans of the sport and who knows maybe that will work. You can argue we dont want people like that as fans of the sport but truth be told the more support it gets, the bigger and better the game will become.

As long as the traditional setup remains the norm and Power Snooker is just a sideline then I think it could be a good thing.

If Power Snooker grows, more youths might consider taking up snooker. Power Snooker will attract more "entertainers" than traditional snooker and hopefully, the whole sport will benefit.

Good post i agree there is room on the calender for this event and its not devalueing or taking nothing awaw from the established and traditional tournaments .

Snooker needs to appeal to a wider audience and i think this may have done that .

I would love to play this in an ameteur league .

Bang on. Yobbish audience and the format itself just didnt work IMHO.
With darts you've got the instant anticipiation/gratification of a checkout or missed double every few minutes. Non stop action. So a rowdy crowd suits it well and darts is the better for it, plus its embedded in darts culture anyway. With snooker its (sorry for the cliche) but "the slow burning tension" that makes it so entertaining. Its a totally different crowd. Its not possible to attract a new crowd without totally selling out, even more than they have done with PS and totally changing snooker until its unrecognizable. I mean where is the buzz, the frame-ball, the "cliffhanger" in PS? There isn't one. double points...whoopie doo. more points out of baulk..who cares.
I'd much rather watch a big event in 8ball pool with the top snooker players than this dross. Sorry Ronnie.

Well I watched it, and thought it was OK.

Though, in my opinion some things need to be changed. Firstly, I think for an event like this it is fine to have some crowd involvement, but the noise and screaming from a drunk section of the crowd is not. That got annoying and it is a shame to see that at a snooker event, particularly when players were down on a shot.

The call of "You're in the Power Zone" by the referee is both annoying and pointless. The players don't really need to be told.

I didn't like the colour of the cloth either!

But it was an interesting variation of the game with some interesting tactics involved which I'm sure the players will start to think about when they play it more, rather than just play their normal game as much as possible. I think ITV covered it well and if it wasn't for Power Snooker they may not cover any snooker, hopefully this will encourage them to cover real snooker.

Power Snooker is not going to take over the world! The traditional game will stay, so don't worry!

True, but if the players are going to take time out for a special event once or twice a year, it could be something so much better.

Some people are making comparisions with Twenty 20 cricket and darts but I don't think you can compare. Twenty20 they just shortened the format to make it more exciting but its still the same sport. In snooker that would be a shot clock or 6red snooker which would be much more entertaining than having these crazy rules. In darts they haven't changed anything to the rules, but have just jazzed it up to make it more exciting and done it brilliantly.
If they added funky rules to cricket or darts as they've done with PS I reckon it would be about as popular as a poke in the eye.
Why not televise instead the 6red world championships that Ken Doherty and the team he worked with did a great job from what I heard.
Much more entertaining than this mickey mouse version of snooker.

Top 32 players, draw out of a hat so there's 8 players per tournament. You'd have 4 winners, and then at a later date you'd have a 5th tournament, with the 4 winners playing in a mini league format.

What do you guys make of that? Decent idea or a stinker?
