Perhaps UK will bring a higher standard of snooker (I deliberately missed the mutilated Grand Prix, called World Open these days)
I have to agree with you there. Other than Carter and to some extent Selby, the only players who were somewhere near their best were the qualifiers. We didn't see a lot of great snooker, and the atmosphere was quite poor for most of the tournament. A couple of frames ago, Mike Hallett actually said that the "crowds have been fantastic all week", or words to that effect. I don't know whether he just wasn't paying attention, or he was deliberately lying.

But after four months of snooker "drought", it was nice to have snooker back. I'm sure the quality will pick up as the season goes on. It's just a shame that we have another long wait until the UK Championship in December.

Maybe he was just being sarcastic, can't he

Congratulations to Ali He's made a very positive start to the season where others have been unable to and what a great second ranking event title for him

Hopefully the standard will pick up though for the rest of the season as there was definitely a lack of consistency in standard from most of the top players...

Well done to Jamie Burnett too for exceeding all our expectations I'm sure :snooker:

Great tourny well played Ali and Jamie
though it was pretty strange with class of play really going down respect to both for playing best in tricky conditions

No, he said it in a "proud" and excited tone.

I don't want to be too critical, but I am not amused when commentators do something like this. It's either because they are poorly prepared and are just guessing, or it's because they are instructed to say something positive, even if it's not true.

Either way, I don't appreciate being mislead.

How nice! Now Kevin can choose from two Ali's pictures to go with the banner.
Robbo's potting is so good he doesn't need to bother with positional play like the rest of the players. He laughs in the face of those who spend hours on the practice table perfecting their cue ball control! ~ Forman

Well, it was nice to see live snooker again on TV. Even if the tournament wasn't exactly spectacular.. and the final didn't produce the greatest quality of snooker. At least it wasn't very one-sided, Burnett put up a good fight, but he simply couldn't score heavily enough. Carter was clearly the better player, well done to him, it's not easy to win ranking titles so I'm sure he'll be delighted.

As for the audiences.. well better than Bahrain I guess.

Looking forward to more televised snooker..
