I understand why O'Brien got so upset. IMO Johan Oomen should have let Davis try one or two more times before calling a foul without miss as he was so near on his first attempt.
Statman, you are one of the most accomplished referees among us here (if not the most), what is your opinion?

Even though he's 2-0 up (2-1 now), I don't get the impression that he's dominating the match. It could've easily been at least 1-1, if not 0-2. Then again, my head's spinning a bit from playing helpdesk and watching.
I'm not going to try to describe the sitation with Davis/FOB, just hope that we get a re-run and Statman's opinion. My opinion, worthless as it is, is that Davis should've made a couple of more attempts.

Well the way Hegeland describes it as "Davis coming very close to it", suggests that a good enough attempt may have been made, depending on the difficulty of the snooker – i.e. was it a one-cushion escape, four or five cushions maybe?
A Miss should not be called because a player got so close he should hit it next time; a Miss should mean that he DIDN'T get close enough and should improve next time.
A full description (or even better, a diagram) of the table layout of the time and the difficulty of the shot would be helpful.
I do not have the wherewithal to watch anything on the internet here at work!
regardless of whether or not the ref should or shouldnt have called it, Fergal shouldnt have let it upset him, or at least not as much, as the ref isnt going to change his mind...
(thats not to say he was or wasnt correct to question it)
