Surprised you can understand it! Most mainland Europeans only learn the Oxford English, so find the Welsh hard to understand. I'm half English so my accent isn't that strong but it is to English people who aren't used to it.
Indeed a very surprising but interesting final coming up

Btw, i have a Welsh friend, i luv the accent too & can very well understand it... it's more like in my part of the world where most ppl speak Arabic but with different accents, for example, Egyptians have a different accent than Algerians, Tunisians, Moroccans, Syrians & so on... yet we all understand each other

    • I spoke to Dominic briefly a few months ago, and he seems like a nice guy. I've always thought he's been underestimated, but I'm surprised to see him come back like this. It's hard to pick a winner between him and Day.
I think Dott has done well to reach the Semis especially considering he hasn't practiced for 4 months! Good to see Selby do well, in his first tournement since the WC.

      • Dott not practising for 4 month? Wow! Since early April then ...
That may explain lots of things ...

I doubt that, they try to teach it in school maybe, but in the end american english is what you get used to (through movies, TV series...)

Day's accent is not strong or hard to understand at all, neither is Matthew's, but Terry Griffiths has the lurveliest Welsh accent. I suppose it might be hard for foreigners to understand, but after a session or two with Griffiths as commentator I was sold! I think he once said about Stephen Maguire that they each need 5-10 minutes of linguistic warm-up just to understand each other whenever he coaches him

I agree with Ekphantos on what we actually learn. We get US English everywhere; Music, films, series and commercials, and I think they have introduced US spelling to the schools here now. My daughter is pronouncing things in American. Help!

I did tell everyone he had not been practising earlier in this thread. I am though surprised and delighted he got so far.

              • Good morning fellow snooker addicts! (Let's just face it, those of us who are up at this hour in the morning to watch snooker are addicts.)

Shanghai Sports has begun broadcasting. Eurosport 2 will begin at 9.15 CET, but the regular Eurosport won't start before 19.00 CET and I certainly hope they're done by then

May the best man win (and may Ryan be just a little bit better than Dom).

                  • God morgon Maija! (Edit: and the lot!)

Seeing that British Eurosport will show a lot more than the Continental version, I was wodnering if possibly anyone got a working webstream of them?

                    GO DOM!

                    • Hi Sam, god morgen Hegeland!

No idea about other streams. The Chinese have grown on me, with their enthusiasm and my inability to understand what they're saying.

Dale started off with a break of 32 before a unlucky split of the pack, a following safety and a lovely long red from Ryan, who is now on a break of 35. 6 reds left. Both are looking reasonably good; should be a nice match!

                      • lol, there's a ranking event final going on and there's onlt 7folks logged on! seems as if that saturday night took it's toll... (as it did on me, I'm still more asleep than awake).

I think both players have made a promising start, will Day take the first?

                        • Good morning all

This Day - Dale is a bit confusing for me, my tongue may slip and I may find myself rooting for the player with the name that has L at the end...
First name basis for me then, go Ryan!

                          • Dom v Ryan 1-1 now

Both had their chances in the frame, and for a while it looked as if Ryan was going to nick it, but Dom took it in the end.

                              • Frame 1: Dale takes a 32-0 lead but Day hits back with a break of 105 to take the opening frame in this best-of-19 final.
Frame 2: Dale ahead early once again with a 40 break at the start of the frame but a 19 break by Day means he trails 41-33 going into the final red. He takes that ball and polishes off the colours to level the match.
