  • Good 76 from Ding. Looked like he was struggling a bit before that break.

Statman, I will not really be able to describe it so that you may be able to judge properly. For one, I only saw the safety (white really tight between the brown and the cushion) - then I sat down to POST what a great safety it was, and that was when Davis made his shot. So I actually didn't see THAT.

I am very sure they'll repeat it later.

I was a bit stunned that a miss was not given as I was "automatically" expecting one. Like one does, I guess.

So I can't say whether Oomen was right or not, but Oomen being Oomen and me being a German spectator, I'll go with Oomen on this one.

      • Yes these days it is certainly true that you automatically expect one, but there is nothing automatic about it, technically. Generally I would say, if three or more cushions are needed (not just selected, but needed) to hit a single object ball in the open, then a Miss could be harsh if missed by a very small amount.

Am I being vague enough not to say anything?!?!?!

A Miss should not be called because a player got so close he should hit it next time; a Miss should mean that he DIDN'T get close enough and should improve next time.

I do not have the wherewithal to watch anything on the internet here at work!
Well the cue ball was stuck in a small gap just betwen behind the brown ball and the baulk cushion. It was a bit tricky three cushion escape with the red approx. 30-40 cm from the black right pocket (as we watch it) and Davis missed the ball by say 10-20 cm. He could easily have added a touch more side and he would have hit it pretty soon (one or two tries probably).

Anyway, just as Semih said, Fergal should not have let himself get upset about it, although I understand why he did.

I'll do a diagram or a pic of the table as I record the match later, just out of curiousity, these types of situations are always fun to discuss.

          Anyway, back to the match!

                • I've missed these tense defensive battles so far in the tournament - nothing is as exciting as when the colours are left and one players needs a snooker - we get plenty of them in this match thankfully (wrong choice of words, no?).

                        • Fergie just tied at 2-2, so if he can play better in 2nd session then he has a chance to win. But in my eyes this is typical 50/50 match right now
