All these terms applying to Ding. What are you doing, folks, recycling your Ronnie-insults? Isn't any tournament complete without the odd derogatory spiel?
Ding needs a psychologist, in my opinion. Not a sports pyschologist but a regular one, since he couldn't have done what he did - namely the deliberate foul - if everything were fine with him. He's been a pro for more than 3 years so she should know better.
It seems that the home-crowd pressure has been too much for him and it's a sad thing to witness.
First off.. I agree with you BC, but I don't think it's just the homecrowd pressure. He's been like that ever since the Masters final.

Secondly.. Ding's become a "she"? (That could explain some of his mental problems )
    (sorry couldn't help it)

I'm totally with you here Cat!
Loosing in the Masters was a big blow, not only because of the score and the hostile crowd ... Ding had played very well in the previous rounds, he was full of confidence, he had even boosted about it (unusual for him) and then he played well (at least for 8-9 frames!) still got really trashed, lost composure, cried in public. Being humiliated and loosing face are extremely serious things in oriental cultures.
I think he may have got doubts about his own abilities, and maybe also whether snooker is really what he wants to do for a living. But he is trapped: he is prepared for nothing else - he's training for snooker since he a boy - he certainly feels that he owns his father for all he sacrificed for him (and that is a very strong pressure in China), he has been elevated to a symbol status and is carrying the hope and pride of the biggest nation in the World ...
He's only 20 (or 21?). All this maybe far too much for anybody to cope with ...

Only my opinion of course ... (no red reps to dread now )

                • I would back Dominic Dale to win this Shanghai masters. He looks the player with the best form, I think he can beat any of the players left in tournament, of course Dott might threaten him, but I doubt this, I think Dale will take Dott seriously in next round and Dott will fall out...

Ooops! The hand is quicker than the eye. Sorry.
I can't help being flattered by the fact that you read my message as carefully as to spot that.

And, Monique, you're right about Ding's possible sense of entrapment.

                      • Forgot Selby too, he is a serious contender for the title. So I think Selby vs Dale will be final. It certainly looks like it at the moment. And Selby IMO has the best chance to win this tournament. His half of the draw is nothing compared to other half

Hendry needs to pull this one off too now...

Anyone remember last time Matthew came back from 4-1 or 5-1 down, forced the decider and LOST it against Hendry?
Jeez! I'm having a bad case of deja-vu.
                                Mon, Maff!

Edit: the match I referred to happened at the Masters. Hendry led 5-0, Matthew levelled with 2 centuries and - I think - two nineties and...lost the decider.
