  • shanghai masters 2008

i was just looking back at the draw for the shanghai masters 2008 over at global snooker, and i noticed that mark allen is in the round before the top 16 enter.

    http://www.globalsnookercentre.co.uk...nghai-draw.htm

i thought that all of the top 16 enter at the same time? allen is the only member of the top 16 in that round, can anyone explain this?

Yes BUT ... Mark Allen is number 16 and the defending champion is Dom Dale who isn't in the top 16. That's why I suppose Dom is top seeded and Mark has been pushed down to last stage of qualifs.

The qualy starts tomorrow at Prestatyn finish on Friday.

So who are the names to look out for this week.

I think Judd Trump, Mark Allen, Jamie Cope and Rory McCleod will be the main shocks into the last 32. Perhaps Scott Mackenzie may do well as a real Outsider.

There might be some interesting matches in the last round of the qualifiers. How about:
                Jimmy White vs Ken Doherty
                Liang Wenbo vs Mark Allen
                Tom Ford vs Stephen Lee
                Alan McManus vs Matthew Stevens

I am tipping Stephen Craigie to have a good run in this event.

I have Joe Delaney putting him out after he beats Stefan Mazrocis in the 1st round.

Scott Mackenzie is my outsider to keep an eye on.

Hey, why does Simon Bedford have a Bye in the first round of the qualifiers?

Simon has a BYE because John Parrott hasn't entered the event due to clashing dates he'd already booked for charity commitments

Jimmy White moves into round two and that leaves the BYE in round one.

and of course Mark Allen gets pushed back to play a qualifying match because Dominic as defending champion is number one seed

A possible Carter - O´Sullivan clash in the quarter.
                              King - Selby last 16
Higgins - Maguire in the quarter
The winner of Carter - O´Sullivan against the winner of Maguire - Higgins.
And with Joe Perry, Mark Williams, Ryan Day, Jamie Cope and Ebdon in the bottom half as well, the quarter draw will probably look different.

It could be an great tournament.
