A real shame two of my favourite players are meeting this early.

But it's so good to see that Jimmy White can finally cope again with the 'almost'-top players again.

He may be fired up following his defeat to swail at the w/c quals last season.

Jimmy has gone 3-0 up on Doherty. Frame winning break of 82.

Jimmy White is 4-0 up on Ken Doherty whitch is brilliant but is that down to his form or Ken.....

Ken not played well for some time thats why his top 32 place is under real threat and this defeat would be a massive blow to his top 32 chances and he didnt play well in the NIT to be honest despite leading Ronnie 4-2 that was more a case of Ronnie letting him lead rather than him taking the initiative..

whatever the reason it will do his Ranking and confidence the world of good reaching the last 32 of a Ranking event.

and Judd Trump is leading swail 3-1 its now time judd trump steps it up..he should be pushing for top 32 place by now not mid 40s....

he has been a let down last season after his World championship of the year before and this should be the season he starts producing.

Absolutely amazing. Jimmy must be playing far better this season, though i suspect someone of Kens class to be loosing this badly, must be having a bad day aswell..

(Ken did say after the NIT that he felt he was playing well, and he felt he had boosted his own confidence by that)

Whatever, there has been an amzing turn around for Jimmy. From barely winning a single match over the last 2 seasons to winning strings of matches in a row in this year.

Good day for the 40+ players!
White 4-0 up now and looks to be playing well. Considering Doherty took a 4-2 lead against O'Sullivan last week, credit to Jimmy for rolling back the years this season.

Steve Davis also 3-1 up against Greene and Harold 3-0 up and on a break.

                .
Ive noticed that Trump's climb up the ranking has been very steady, though not as spectacular as some people seemed to be expecting. He seems to have been moving up around 10 places a year. So if he keeps that up, he could be well on course to break the top 32 by the end of this season.

I read somewhere that he feels that he freezes when he qualifies for the tv stages of events. That is obviously holding him back, hopefully all he needs is one good run to a q/f or something to get over that.

yes but someone like trump should be moving up at a more rapid rate being the prodagy he is or was.....

it just shows that theres no substatute for experiance...you can have all the talent in the world and can pot balls off the lampshades but if you go for 1 shot 2 many you wont win matches consistantly enough.

but really looking back he has only played 2 matches on TV in 2 season from my memory 1 against Murphy in the Worlds and the other against Ronnie. his problam he doesent make the tv Reguarly to gain the experiance needed infront of the TV Cameras so thats a cop out really. he should be making more TV Apearance first before making excuses like that.

Jimbo's done it again ! Through 5-1 against Ken, to play Mark King in the main event. He stands much more chance of winning that than he did against Hawkins !

Well if he has only made 2 tv appearances, and has had to play top players like that on both occasions, its no wonder he has frozen. I suspect he will just need an easier opponent on TV to get him going, before he can stand a chance against the very top players.

Don't tell him that! He might go and celebrate and ... f*** it up!

Seriously. All praise to him, he seems to have put in the effort seriously this time. Unless there is another explanation? Dave H on his blog (http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/) speaks about Jimmy running out of his chair like Usain Bolt ... could it be he's started running with his good mate Ronnie?

Well done to Jimmy, He's won a lot more matches in these two tournaments than last two years put together. It'll be tough against Mark King who beat him earlier in the year in the WC qualifying (didn't he)

My opinion on Trump is simply that he isn't yet good enough. He may be able to pot and breakbuild but there is much more to the game than that. When Hendry first came through in 86 he was like that, but after a few maulings from Davis he had to modify his game - he was still very aggressive of course, but did occasionally wait for the right opportunity. Even the Hurricane when his mind was focused had good safety prowess and Ronnie is tactically and with safety play up there with the best in the game.
He certainly has ability, and is young enough to work at it, but plenty of other players have not fulfilled their promise.

He didn't freeze against Shaun Murphy because of TV - He give him a game and although he lost 10-6,. he led in the early stages and lost the last five frames. He was only 17 then and at the end of the match gifted Shaun a few chances. He's still very young and has the ability. I'm sure he'll have a good run in a tournament sooner or later and perhaps that'll give him a kick start, but he certainly needs to put the work in.

Looks like it may go 3-3 - The Outlaw is back at the table and 32-0 in front.

yes, but Jimmy seems to be playing alltogether better this season. Plus he says he had kricked his neck before that match. Also having loast to King last time, he will be better prepared this time, there's also the other motive of seeking revenge.
