And that's exactly why we have wild cards. Because there are better players out there than those who qualify. Yu Delu won several of his wild card matches and still didn't get on the main tour. Unlike Chris McBreen or Wayne Cooper(random names, no disrespect intended).

Unfair to the qualifiers... the nerve! If they are better they should win, shouldn't they? If they win, they get extra match practice, and if they lose what's the point in them playing in the last 32, if they can't beat the wild cards?
I agree, but the the 7 or 8 qualifiers that have to play qualifiers have earned as much right as the other 8 qualifiers to play in the tournament but have to play an extra match with no extra reward, now I do find that unfair.

That'll be tough for the wildcards, as these are obviously the 'in form' qualifiers who must be playing well to have got this far. If any of the qualifiers have a bad day though, they could easily fall at this final hurdle.

This will be hard for Jimmy in particular ... Xiao Guodong is a man in form and apparantly very keen on being back on the main tour

What will happen with the ranking points. If Jimmy loses will he stil earn the points of a first round loser?

It´s certainly fair if he does. But Guodong won´t get any points, if he should advance. The year Ding won his first title, he only gained points for first round loser.

I know that and it seems unfair also. Although most of them, if not all, are NOT on the main tour ... so what would they do with ranking points?

Um. I was reading the match results from the BBC and World Snooker for the Shanghai Masters but I don't see Matthew Stevens anywhere. He did beat McManus by 5-1 didn't he in the qualifyers?

He just seems to have disappeared
