  • Ricky Walden not nominating foul?

In the final, ES reporter mentioned Ricky touched a red with his cue but did not nominate a foul as the ref did not notice it. The reporter said a player will always know touching a red with his cue and from experience I know its true. So what is your opinion. Is it unsportmanship? Dont know whether it has been discussed on the Shanghai masters discussion. If so, forget!

As I recall he had the extended spider out and was miles away from the red so probably wouldn't have noticed

I did not see the footage, but does it really matter how distant one is? Normally one always feels the contact from cue to ball.

It was in the first session, either 3rd, 4th or 8th frame, because he went to make a frame winning break from it.

But dont want to take anything away from him, he deservedly won the tournament. Even said on some predictions he would win it.

Be aware I am getting a threat warning on my firewall and virus program when trying to access that file.

well, I did not put any virus in the file
but my firewall is warning me also and very often about virus danger

Great stuff, you are as fast as lightning!

He did feather the red lightly but watching it now I am pretty sure he did not notice it as it was such a miniscule contact. And the ref would not have spotted it either. Actually was a safety, not a pot and dont think the result would have been different when spotted. was the 3rd frame.

Things that can happen. Any blemish of unsportmanship out of the window!

I've watched it twice and don't think it's a foul

Hi there. I am away with Ricky for the Grand Prix in Glasgow. So I have just shown him this thread and asked his opinion. He basically said that in his opinion it was not a foul. We have watched that clip 4 times and he said when the camera is up close look at the base of the red he is cueing over, it does not move, the shadow does not move. He admits he is cueing close extremely close to the red, but he is 10ft away on tip toes cueing over with the spider and extensions on. Set this up at the club and try it and see if you feel it by touch.

Ricky has said finally that if he even suspected it was a foul he would call it on himself but he didn't and also do not forget there was a referree watching.

I know he would, because he already called a foul on himself once during the final.
