I thought this was alright. At least it didn't have a ridiculous amount of rule changes.
IMO, it would be interesting to see matches that are best of 5 or 7. Maybe start with a group stage. At least if there are a few more frames, it eliminates the 'luck' a lot more. With it being one frame, you might not get a shot.
The one thing that does need addressing is the crowd. For starters, this is not darts. Snooker is it's own sport and that needs respecting. Personally, crowd interaction is alright but if you give some an inch, they take a mile and end up getting carried away.

Eirian Williams called foul, picked the white up and gave it to Steve, why??
I thought that would have been 'ball moved by other than striker' and the balls would have had to be re-placed where the ref thought they would have finished and Peter play again. How can it be a foul when the previous shot hadn't finished?
In this tournament any foul means the other player puts the white where they want to
Basically it is only ever going to happen in this tournament

As I said yesterday, darts effect wasn't there. No interaction between players and the spectators, instead, just a few drunk people shouting was my first impression.
But I still don't want to call for the head of something taking baby steps, especially if players would like to get involved in an event with a similar format.
Problem is alcohol consumption pure and simple

I understand it would probably only happen in this tournament, but the rule has to be applied correctly regardless of the competition.

Today was much better and the game created the right atmosphere.
