Agreed. No offence to Perry but he was never going to win.

Stevens/Roberton should have been on with Ronnie on later.

    Anyone know the current scores?

Stevens won 5-1. Robertson's flu-like symptoms got the better of him, I guess.
Not that of a huge shock that Stevens won, but Robertson wouldn't normally be losing a match in this style these days.
Then again, yesterday Maguire whitewashed Higgins, so, anything can happen after seeing that.
      All the way Mark J!!

Thanks. Do you know how well Stevens played? I fancy O'Sullivan to win that one.

I'd be interested to see how this affects the rankings. Lee, Stevens and O'Sullivan are all still involved but Walden, Davis and it looks like Bingham are all going home.

I've just had a look and even though I'm don't fully understand the ranking point system, I think O'Sullivan has now overtaken Mark Davis at 17. If he wins against Stevens he'll overtake Walden at 16. If he get's to the final and Lee goes out in the next round vs Williams (again this is assuming Bingham get's KO'd) then I think Ronnie will go up to 14th. Should he win the tournament he might even get to 13th (and next year he'd have zero points to defend!).

I'm not 100% sure I've got that right though.

No idea about that. Wish that was the one that got televised. I'd slightly favor Ronnie to go through, however.

As for the rankings, I don't think he has overtaken Mark Davis yet. I suppose, a win against Stevens would put him at Number 17. I'm trying to figure this out by looking at Matt's blog. But I'm not so sure about my calculation.

            Before this week:

            Davis: 40300
            ROS: 39240

            Davis has gained 1400 points
Ronnie has gained 2500 points (atleast)

            Currently it's:
            Davis: 41700
            Ronnie: 41740

Ricky Walden (16) now has 42955 points (including what he's gained this week) and if ROS beats Stevens he'll be on 42440 and if he get's to the final he'll be on 43240. In other words he needs to reach the final for him to get back into the top 16 this week.

            It's so complicated!

Problem Ronnie has is that Walden + Lee didn't even qualify for the 2010 Welsh Open and Bingham lost in the first round so they all have a good chance of getting some points whilst O'Sullivan reached the semi's so he has more to lose.

My gut feeling is that Ronnie will have to reach the final here and the semi's at the Welsh (where he'd have to beat Trump in the 1/4s) for him to still be in the top 16 by the WC. Winning this tournament would be huge, but I just can't see it - I think he'd beat Williams in the semi final but the more I think about it, the more I fancy Stevens to win tonight.

I also enjoy good safety battles, it's the "other side" of the game. Actually, I find century-after-century snooker quite boring. But most of all, I don't want to see 4 O'Sullivan matches in a row. Other players deserve to be there too. Snooker is more than just O'Sullivan or Trump for me.
I couldn't agree with you more, on all your points! Hoping for lots of safety battles to come....
