  • No former champion in the quarters

Assuming Stephen Hendry does not beat Neil Robertson, there will be no former Masters champion in the last 8. Has this ever happened before.

Conversely, of course, if Hendry does win, there will be possibly only one higher seed in the quarters (none if Cope beats Murphy).

Either way, an astonishing set of circumstances so I thought it deserved its own thread!

Yeah, 2008. By that time, Hunter, Stevens and McManus were not in the tournament anymore, while Davis had to play a wildcard. The other four past champions all lost in the 1st round.

Really interesting the way things are panning out this year, d'you think it's got anything to do with the PTCs?

I've got a strange feeling that Robertson will fall to day, Hendry has smelled blood as so many top players are gone and he'll produce a vintage performance out of nowhere and eases through to the next round and eventually to the title...

Well i predicted a scoreline of 6-2 to Robertson, and i think he will outplay Hendry in every department today. Still, if there is a tournament where Hendry is likely to be inspired apart from (the World Championship), it's at The Masters.

Regarding the Murphy/Cope match, it's hard to see past Murphy, but if Cope can produce some of his best form i can certainly see him beating Murphy..

Got a feeling that Stephen will produce today, early on at least and go down 6-4 like seemingly everyone else has this week. Don't think it will be the predicted landslide that his recent form would point to.

Regarding Cope, you never know what you're going to get with him. His best is so far above his average standard it's ridiculous. I remember him murdering Higgins in the UK 2 or 3 years back (9-3?) and seeing him as a certain world champion but he's stagnated badly since then with only brief flashes of brilliance. I just hope he can get past Murphy today and show us what he's undoubtedly capable of.

Cope unfortunately doesn't possess the all-around game to hang on to a game when he's not on fire.

Speaking of Hendry, though, I wouldn't count him out immediately. In the last couple of seasons, there were games at which he played brilliantly without previously showing any promising signs, so, you never know.

Well he was seeded 9 so he wasn't a higher seed. Or am I misunderstanding?
