Though, in addition to what I said about Virgo, he comes across better if you see him at Snooker Legends when he isn't constantly droning on about how great Ronnie is.

Hendry speaks when there is something to say, and pretty much all his comments are accurate and interesting.
He's losing his quick reflexes, I guess. Not fast enough to make the response, lol.
Hendry is a very adequate source of comments in the game. He is not interrupting at each shot just to be saying something.
Come on. This isn't a football game or something. Commentators may have pauses during breaks, as well. It would be a lot better if they didn't feel obliged to tell simple shots as if they were related to rocket science or so.All the way Mark J!!

I think Neal Foulds is the best commentator by a comfortable margin - it's a shame he's not used more often by the BBC. Willie Thorne irritates me the most, especially when he's wittering on about splitting the reds as if it was an exact science, and I'm glad we've been spared him for the Masters.
I think Hendry has done fine so far - he may be a little reticent but that's understandable while he settles into the role. He certainly predicts the next shot much more accurately than most of the other commentators.

Neal Foulds and Steven Hendry I would have to say are my favorites. Parrot is likeable as well. Doherty's not too bad. Dennis Taylor always good for a laugh or two. Cllive Everton all-time best imo. No-one on bbc is too bad really, I like listening to them all...yes even lovely Hazel
Anyone care to comment on Mike Smith from Eurosport? If anyone is capable of getting under my skin time and time again, it's that guy. What a complete and utter muppet. And it seems like good ol' Joe Johnson doesn't care much for his co-commentator either.

But seriously, what is his background with respect to snooker? Anyone?
Joe Johnson is very good and I would like to see him on BBC with Davis, Dohery, Hendry - and maybe flirting with Hazel - oh er missus
daffie - your last comment "doesn't care much for his co-commentator either" can you expand or just a feeling you have?

DeanH,
At one time Mike Smith was an emcee at the Crucible in the early 80s, and emceed at various exhibition matches at around the same time. He also presented pro-celebrity Snooker series (early1980s) for a brief time.."Statistics won't tell you much about me. I play for love, not records."

It is funny, and the way Mike first has his monologue of a couple of minutes before 'introducing his good friend Joe'...imo that's pretty disrespectful. He does it every time. They might get along fine though, I don't really know. It's just that they often don't seem eye to eye, and don't really 'match' as commentators...whereas the other couple of David Hendon and the other Mike (not sure what his name is) seem to have a good commentator's relationship going...Up the TSF! :snooker:
