You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. Ronnie set out to make a fast 147. Did he have a bet with someone? I don’t know the full story. So no one, even Ronnie himself, will come close to that record in normal match play.
One thing special about Ding’s 147 is that it came from nowhere. Most 147s I have seen started off from easy openings with reds spreading nicely already. Ding had to make it happen from a long pot with a tight pack.2006 Premier League Prediction Contest WinnerComment

I saw Ding's maximum on the highlights last night. Fantastic. The reds weren't ideal and he had to work hard for it. I'm surprised commentry didn't even mention a maximum posibility until something like the 11th black had gone down. If it was Hendry or Higgins they would have been jumping out of their seats by the 5th black.Comment

Superb 147 Break
I watched a replay of the 147 break on the coverage this afternoon. Some of the positions of those reds made it a highly commendable effort. None of this balls already out in the open malarky, he made it into a chance and took it in style. Always love it when a 147 goes in
