What do people here think of hawkeye vision?

This has just been used to show that Doherty did not have the correct potting angle to go for a red. However, its was used just after a camera showed the same thing!!?

I think it's just a gimmick and total pants!!

Probably been introduced to try and impress the veiwing public. And you're right, the camera shows exactly the same thing!

      It is useful in cricket

but not in snooker! I enjoy watching JV drawing silly lines in that magic white 'TV only' marker pen and trying to fathom whether balls will pot from a commentary box where he can't properly see if one ball passes another in tight gaps. Hawkeye is definitely a gimmick and I doubt it'll catch on with true fans at least...

think that was said years ago in tennis, then they started letting rulings be made using it.

        (least i read that)

I think its novel and quite good actually. They just used it to show a plant by Mark Williams. So long as they dont go o.t.t. with it, like Dennis with his silly white lines.

I think its a good thing and they should stick with it.

They've used it at the baulk end too where the camera can't always get to and if it enhances our angles and understanding of the shot, then we shouldnt knock it!

thinks thats a good point too

ok it may not be too helpful to me WRT the above, but your average snooker fan will be getting info they dont know (well) and will be able to inderstand what some players and experienced enthusiasts already know

just not overkill on it, and it will be a good addition......

They've been gearing more towards the casual snooker fan or the beginning viewer. They need to do this as the seasoned watcher will tune in anyway. Time to draw in a new crowd. I, for one, loved the white lines drawn by mr. Taylor when I first started watching snooker, because I had no clue what the game was about.

I have only seen it used once, and it was used to simulate the position from the baulk end, demonstrating that the blue was slightly hiding the natural potting angle for a long red, and thus that he (I forget who it was) needed to use a touch of side.

                    Very useful.

kellie was spot on. There are no close up cameras near the baulk side. For that reason it has added value.

It was used in Higgins-maguire match
Higgins thought he didn't saw blue, and pot it but didn't went on pink right
Hawkeye showed that Higgins saw blue and could pretty good went on pink
                          Actually cameras didn't show it
I saw it only once and I think it's quite useful sometimes
