This kind of match and result is what I hate most about snooker. Doherty bossed the game really and but for a terrible kick on a frame ball red he would have won comfortably 6-4. As great a player as O'Sullivan is its not the first time luck has had a big helping hand in him getting the result.

Ken must be absolutely gutted and I hate to see players lose through sheer bad luck. I know that luck can play a part in many sports but at snooker its probably the hardest to take because you cannot do anything about it once its happened. Ken never really got another chance and even in the final frame Ronnie missed a red early on and left the white in the pack of reds but yet again got lucky as he didn't leave a pot on. After what happened I think Ken was just frustrated and probably felt he was never destined to win the game and so it proved. Bad luck Ken!

The kick in the 10th was nasty and unlucky and it reminded me of what took place in the UK against Walden , I agree. But what happened in the decider when Ronnie missed a long red by a mile and Ken misjudged a relatively easy pot and let the Enghlishman in again can be called "unforced error", in my opinion.
As I think I've already said, it would most probably have been 4-2 but for yet another unforced error from Ronnie so...
It's very easy to forget about asking the ref to clean the cue ball; the game gets too captivating and you get lost in it. Either that or you don't want to break the rhythm.

There's a huge difference between missing easy pots and unforced errors, compared to "remembering" to ask the ref to clean the cue ball on easy pots. When someones on a roll and looks to win the match, i can see why they'd not ask. Sadly, it shouldn't be needed, but i suppose kicks are just a part of the game. Sadly, some seem to come at terrible times (Hendry V Bond in last years world champs come to mind). I agree, Ken should've potted that ball in the last frame, but after being robbed in the frame before that, i can understand that he would have missed it. Anyway, it dosen't matter now, if Maguire can up his performance a bit more it should be a great match between him and O'Sullivan in the semis.

The game was somewhat spoiled for me by the commentator, obviously being a Ronnie fan; he kept expecting Ronnie to whitewash Ken all along. At 3-2 he remarked that "Ken still hasn't given up", as though Ken was absolutely chanceless. At 3-2. Bläh, the comments were just annoying, but I do like hearing the clink! sounds (and my telly is somewhat broken, so I can't turn the sound off).
Das war ein FLUKE! Ein Glückstreffer!

Don't forget, apart from that vital kick Den got to cost him the match, he got some fair share of fluke or good luck also in the match, let's just say it is snooker, and maybe say he just still hadn't had enough margin to win it. In the decider he also missed his chances, in comparison Ronnie showed his strength to capitalize it at last. It was a good match!

it was one of those matches for me when I dont really care who's gonna win because I like both players. But I fancied Doherty a bit more yesterday..
The guy is just great, I like his attitude, his sense of humour and it's a pity he had that kick...
but that's the game...I enjoyed the match

IMHO ken had played a slightly better match up until he was 5-4 ahead. not just because of the scoreline, but just in the way the frames had panned out.

that given, he was very unlucky to get a kick at a crucial point on a tap in finish for the match, but everyone gets kicks and they dont time themselves well unfortunately.

ronnie came back well the last 2 frames and id say deserved to win in the end, but only just.

a very close match, as the score suggests.

Are you going to do one for the Ding match?
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman
