On Wednesday Hendry led Stevens 5-0 but only won 6-5. Tonight he led Murphy 4-0 and now it looks like being 5-4. Why can't Hendry finish matches off?

To be fair Stephen beat Matthew 6-5, so did actually finish the match off. He's also since managed to beat Shaun 6-3, again finishing the match off.
Don't really see a problem here mate. If he always gets off to a flier (3 or 4 nil) up....99 times out of a 100 he'll go on and win the match.
I know what you're saying though, but remember, Hendry is winning 4 or 5 frames on the bounce, so why can't his opponent?Mon the Rocket

Quite simply Hendry does not have the confidence in his game that he had 10-15 years ago.
In those days it was common to see Hendry win a deciding frame in one visit or race to the winning line with a couple of one visit frames when he was 3-0 ahead over best of 9.
However John Virgo mentioned in commentary today that Hendry appeared a little hesitant on a middle range straight red which he missed. Virgo said if that was Hendry at his peak he would have got straight down and pot the ball.
this began to happen to Steve Davis in the 90s.
We saw Ding close out his match with Steven Lee with 2 one visit frames from 4-2 to 6-2. In another 15 years time he will probably lose a little confidence and fail to do it so often.

I have hopes for Hendry's comeback...he's in the semis now..and was in the final in the last tourney...considering the fact that he's been pretty out of it for a long time, he's getting there....I'm sure of it...
We'll see what he can do against Ding this afternoon,,,hmmm2010 World Open Prediction Contest Winner

Ding's been under 2-0 in the last couple of matches (if my sleepy brain doesn't play tricks on me now), and Hendry's been opening quite nice, so if he manages to take advantage of that...
At any rate - the match should be a good, long and even one! (Then again, the last time I said so Ronnie conceded on him.)Das war ein FLUKE! Ein Glückstreffer!
