  • dino, yeah, the bbc commentators are a bit bias. i love o'sullivan, but im getting sick of hearing him being called a genius every 5 seconds.
the best thing he did tonight was to tell that lout in the audience where to go. i think the refs should be allowed to just tell everyone to shut up. i mean, all that shouting from the audience is so chav-tastic. i hate it.

      • Cong. to ronnie

well no doubt to say, it is a magnificent game,by both Ding(well a little bit disappointed) and Rocket Ronnie, the crowd definitely did some unmeet behaviors, more or less, this would be the vital turning point for the both players,Ding tried a cop-out after the 12th frame, at that situation, u could imagine how he was bearing all the boos came away from the winebags, he was bounding to save the the situation after a little failures in order to win the masters, however, he couldn't handle this very well at the age of 19. Ronnie definitely showed the way he ought to do to the rookie, I really appreciated what he has done to Ding. Well good game to both of the players! Hope there're more vehement frames between these two gentlemen in the future!

        Well done!

        • I agree with some of the comments above ... that tonight's experience will only harden Ding up. He's had quite a traumatic evening, but I think it's a valuable lesson to learn that snooker is not just about what happens on the table, it's also about maintaining composure and focus in the face of a crowd that for the most part, is rooting for the other guy. There's a whole other match going on inside the player's head.

When I first started watching snooker as a nipper, I don't remember the crowds being quite that vocal. These days it seems no opportunity for a fan to get a shout in is missed and some even shout as the guy is getting down to the shot ! Scandalous, really ! You wouldn't expect a Tiger Woods fan to shout when the man is about to stroke a 15 foot putt, would you?

Snooker as a sport has a good image and a reputation for propriety and sportsmanship. Whilst for the most part the crowds are well behaved, it seems that these days there is always someone who needs to be thrown out of a major event for inappropriate behaviour.

I feel sorry for Ding ... he clearly has the talent to win a title like this without doubt, and for me as a proud Brit, I feel embarrassed by the fact that someone said something Ding obviously found highly offensive in the middle of a match. I really hope that it wasn't a deliberate attempt to put Ding off as it would be a long way outside of the spirit of the game and indeed the nation itself.
          Bang out of order !

Ding thought it was the best of 17 not 19. Here is a report from the BBC

Superb Rocket beats Ding in final

O'Sullivan also won the title in 1995 and 2005
Ronnie O'Sullivan knocked in four century breaks as he beat Ding Junhui 10-3 to win his third Masters title in front of a boisterous Wembley crowd.
O'Sullivan lost the first two frames to the 19-year-old Chinese star but roared back to lead 5-3 at the interval.

The unstoppable Rocket raced through the next four frames to move 9-3 ahead, prompting Ding to offer his hand in resignation before leaving the arena.

Ding, who thought it was a best-of-17 final, returned but O'Sullivan pounced.

Ding had started the final in impressive form and stole a two-frame lead thanks to breaks of 77 and 109.

But O'Sullivan rolled in breaks of 55, 99, 128 and 101 to power into the lead.

Ding managed to stop the rot by potting a wonderful long pink to make it 4-3 but the Englishman's third century, a rapid 116, saw O'Sullivan open a 5-3 lead at the end of the first session.

The two-time world champion's stunning form continued in the evening session with a brilliant 96 break and then a run of 66.

The Chinese player was struggling to keep his game together and O'Sullivan quickly made it 8-3 with another dazzling century break.

His 143 was the second highest of the tournament after Ding's 147 maximum in the wildcard round.

Ding failed to take advantage of a chance in the 12th frame and O'Sullivan got back in to wrap up the frame with a 49 run.

Strangley O'Sullivan then put his arm around Ding just before the players walked off for the first interval of the session after Ding offered his hand in resignation.

The players did return after a 20-minute break, but a World Snooker spokesman confirmed that Ding had thought the match was the best-of-17 frames instead of the scheduled 19.

It made little difference as O'Sullivan, with a break of 74, won the first frame after the interval to secure the title.

              did you enjoy the snooker?
i've been bored of snooker lately, but i have always loved the masters, so i thought i would take more of an interest in this tournament. it was quite controversial wasnt it. thats what i like to see!

to whoever mentioned it a second ago, i agree, ding will do this to countless other players in the future!! at least its nice to see he's human though. i remember this moment when he is winning everything and im sick of him

Yes this is snooker not a certain Channel 4 programme

I remember watching a Jimmy White match - Jimmy was doing his usual edge-of-the-seat NEARLY winning the frame then losing it trick, and just as he was about to take a shot an old guy shouted out in a loud trembly voice 'Don't let him off the hook no more Jimmy!' Don't know why people shout at the time when it will distract their own player. Retiring to the bar at the mid session interval could have something to do with it

                • I can't help but think that "he thought it was out of 17 frames" was just an excuse made up to cover what Ding was actually inteding to do when he shook Ronnie's hand.

                  • It looks like a brush-up for me. I think Ding knew the format and was just too upset to continue. It'll be nice to hear updates from members that were in the arena and also Ding's side of story. Hope Caroline can fill us in.

                      • It’s the first tournament that I go watching at the place and I have to say that some of the crowd are really unacceptable. It’s quite a surprised to me as I imagine it otherwise seeing from the snookerfan board. Shouting, talking while the player is playing, drinking and disturbing other fans…

I also agree with all of you about Ronnie’s behave whether the incident is like the World snooker says or not. IMO what he does helps Ding out a lot of trouble.

                        • yeah, i guess ding would have got a lot of stick for quitting.

snooker is never boring when things like this are happening. all publicity is good apparently... imagine how boring the reports would be tomorrow if everything had gone without a hitch.
