  • Some extract from the BBC article with Ding's after-match comment.

    >>>

Afterwards, O'Sullivan paid tribute to his opponent and said: "Ding is one of the rarest talents that I have seen

"There is no doubt in my mind that he will become a multiple World Champion."

Ding added: "It is very different to events like the China Open because the fans go in groups and I felt very alone here.

"I was a bit annoyed with some of comments because I couldn't concentrate."

Agreed. Ding was upset, but not unconscious. He always looks deeply disturbed while not playing the way he intened to, and this is just a magnified version of it. This lad knew very well the score I think, he just had enough of a disastrous night.

Actually it looks like Ding Junhui simply miscounted. Jan Verhaas was telling him "one more, one more" repeatedly.

I also don't think he'd cried afterwards. Obviously there's some eye problem.

It's sort of astonishing to read that suddenly there's so much emotion attributed to Ding.

        Anyway. Surrealistic match that was.

        • Thats a real shame for Ding, it must be really difficult for him being such a long way from home and feeling lonely. Lets hope it doesnt affect his next tournament.

            Couldn't have agreed more!

Anyone noticed Ronnie had somewhat watered eyes being interviewed by Steve Davis, and did not look in an unreservedly cheering mood. Okay, maybe I am just thinking too much...

            • I think the idiot in the crowd made Ronnie feel extra sorry for Ding at the end, thats why he didnt seem as over the moon as he normally would be.

I don't think we've seen the last of Ronnie's problems though, i think there's alot going on in his mind and he's just as likely to have a breakdown at the next tournament as he is to win it.

Ding will be strong in Malta, i dont think tonight will hold him back.

                • i am certain ding cried during the interval and in the last frame, he just can't handle losing sometimes, he used to cry everytime he lost before he came to england., and i think he was particularly upset when he lost to stephen lee here two years ago.

                  • You've watched him playing before he came to England, gendson?

                    • not really, there aren't too much coverage, i started to watch him from his first ever appearance on tele in the 2003 masters when he beat joe perry 6-3.
his parents and friends said it to the media many times when saying how mature he's become now...

                      • he said himself that he thought the match was over at 17 frames, and ronnie was convinced...

                        • I actually believe that Ding did genuinely thing it was best of seventeen.

I would, particularly after the bad press he's received over the last controversial month, like to say that I think Ronnie's attitude and behaviour were exceptional this evening; he seemed to be genuinely concerned for and compassionate towards Ding. Maybe that's not the word, but you know what I mean.

                          • After reading the article, I thought I read wrongly of ding, he didn't hand a cop-out, I think he actulli mistaken the game schedule.

I think it is very normally happen to a 19-year-old lad, cryin for not reachin his best to win over the game, this proves his high ambitions and emulative direction of his snooker career, everybody cryin ever since they were been born, and learnt how to grow up and straighten up through cryin. Well, his disposals might be still precipitant in many cases, but you would never expect someone aged 19 acting as matured as 31 normally.

                            • I think that it was a combination of the game slipping away and some element of the crowd, rather than either by itself.

Had he been winning the crowd wouldn't have bothered him so much; had the crowd not been bothering him so much he may not have fallen away so steeply.

                              • yes, i was right, he did cry after he lost to stephen lee in the 2003 masters, after leading 5-2, and cried much harder than today, so he's learning. and ding has never been so sad over the past few years, which also reflects how much he wanted to win this one. but i am really moved by how ronnie reacted , he must've recovered lots more supports this time from his walk out in the uk.. the next player to better his performace will dominate... and there will be one...
