    • Baird looked great, apart from the few times he slashed near the end there.

When he decided to cannon the four balls below the pink instead of playing the plant, and it didn't work out, you could see him start to deflate a bit. Then he missed the red to left middle and he struggled with every chance to put the match away afterwards.

Dale must be disappointed because he knows the momentum had swung in his favour at that moment.

        • Selby will be tough but Baird should be able to cue more freely now that he's survived his debut. He'll be a big underdog with nothing to lose.

And for those who didn't see the match, take a look at Steve's first few opening balls of the break which won him the deciding frame, particularly the green, very un-Davis like IMO, bit naughty really.

If he misses the green, he's most likely out of the tournament, it's a very brave shot to take on, and great to see Steve playing with such confidence.

He'll need to be a lot more patient against Selby. Mark will tie him up in knots and score more heavily if let in.

                • I suppose in a best of seven, you can't really call anyone a big underdog though.

                  • nah dude, I mean that underdogs get smaller rather than bigger as their chances of winning decrease

Could we please leave all the naughty references to the young guns... Fantastic win for Steve! Really happy to see him go through to the 2nd round. Hopefully today I'm able to see a bit of snooker, didn't get to see much yesterday.

                        • All I saw was the John Higgins match. Which I thought was somewhat below par, as both men weren't up to much. Liang Wenbo really hasn't shaped up to the player we were expecting him to be. But then, a couple of years ago that was probably true of Judd Trump.

I'm watching that match now on eurosport player. A bit timid I have to say. Liang Wenbo will always be remembered I think because of his especially funny entrance once where he came along trailing the ref at the begining of a match, before he was officially called-out...then he strutted back inside the corridor, went left...the wrong way, and then we saw him strut across the corridor to the right. Chaplin-esque...I still have to laugh at his entrance thereafter...one of the funniest moments I like watching him as a player, too bad indeed he hasn't really lived up to expectations...

                            • I was just thinking that last night. His dweeb-like antics won him many fans. At that tournament he also sat down thinking he'd missed a shot, only for it to fluke in the other pocket behind his back. There was also some stories of him getting lost looking for the toilet.

When the commentators were going; "He's a character this boy", you could've replaced it with; "He's a bit of a prat this boy."

Good luck to him though, he did take it all in his stride. Especially being from another culture.
