I would rather see some one visit stuff mixed with drama, which is usually the outcome of an high-quality encounter.
17 frames filled with tactical play would get boring after a moment. The reason fans love to see those is the drama they include and if more than a couple of frames were going in that context, it would just be repetitive.
Not that I love to see smashing of the cue ball into the pack from shot one, however.
I know exactly where you're coming from daffie. I like a big break as much as anyone, but there's nothing like watching the drama and skill of a closely fought quality tactical exchange IMO, and the ideal match for me contains a good proportion of both, but if I had to choose between 17 frames of one visit clear-ups or 17 close frames with quality tactical play, I'd go with the latter, hands down.

I would have to agree with both statements. But I still favor tactical/safety battles highly above clear-ups. If I *had* to choose, then...all tactical...every frame
just checked Chris' old site your right just seemed a lot longer, to be fair Ronnie into the top sixteen in 2 years is just ridiculous even more ridiculous it was straight into the top seven

Yeah that's true...sad though. That's why I'm praying for the WC to stay unchanged..forever
Totally agreed. I don't want to see shortened matches in WC. With long format, there is room to see all sorts of snooker, break building, tactical exchanges, dramatic finishes..
Let's hope it stays like that.
Poor Matthew, that would be some clearance for sure..
All the way Mark J!!
I understand nothing from snooker. - Dedicated to jrc750!
As would 17 frames of non stop potting, IMO. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the tactical match.

I can't argue with your point here. Same goes with me.
It's good that players are human beings, not robots, so it's generally unlikely for them to play the same standard over the course of a long enough match and get repetitive (=

Good match, Maguire-Stevens. It's interesting, surprising actually, how good that part of the draw turned out to be. Hawkins played good snooker and lost in the 1st round, Stevens was also somewhere near his current best, but it's Maguire that goes through.
That cannon to the last two reds from Stevens really was a great shot. I don't think we'll see many better this season.
