17 frames filled with tactical play would get boring after a moment. The reason fans love to see those is the drama they include and if more than a couple of frames were going in that context, it would just be repetitive.
Not that I love to see smashing of the cue ball into the pack from shot one, however.

I would have to agree with both statements. But I still favor tactical/safety battles highly above clear-ups. If I *had* to choose, then...all tactical...every frame

              • Am I the only one who really doesn't care about Judd and Bingham today? I might live stream Gould and Selby.

                  • The left handed stretch attempted pot down the cushion was such a bad idea. Surely a safety shot was the right option there?

I agree, that's why I said that my ideal match would contain a good proportion of both.

As would 17 frames of non stop potting, IMO. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the tactical match.

Totally agreed. I don't want to see shortened matches in WC. With long format, there is room to see all sorts of snooker, break building, tactical exchanges, dramatic finishes..
Let's hope it stays like that.

Poor Matthew, that would be some clearance for sure..

                          • This tactical argument for me is the equivalent of would you rather watch Brazil or Greece, Wimbledon or Barcelona

I can't argue with your point here. Same goes with me.
It's good that players are human beings, not robots, so it's generally unlikely for them to play the same standard over the course of a long enough match and get repetitive (=

                              • Good match, Maguire-Stevens. It's interesting, surprising actually, how good that part of the draw turned out to be. Hawkins played good snooker and lost in the 1st round, Stevens was also somewhere near his current best, but it's Maguire that goes through.

That cannon to the last two reds from Stevens really was a great shot. I don't think we'll see many better this season.
