  • Hi guys, me and my dad are going down for the semi finals tomorrow. It's our first ever snooker tournament. We have front row seats (booked months ago), on one side in the afternoon and the other side in the evening. I know it goes down to one table and I'm a bit worried that we will be miles away from the table! Has anyone else been to the Newport centre? Do I need to pack the binoculars?!

    • Ronnie looks like he's back to his usual self, playing cue ball-in-hand snooker.
      All the way Mark J!!

      • Well, as much as I like tactical matches...it is something else to see ROS break-build. Like they say "poetry in motion". What a beautiful 139 break...such rhythm around the table. Fantastic to watch!

        • And followed by a great break from Trump, I have to admit. He had to work hard for it...

          • Another short frame. Ronnie could have got in there, but missed a good opportunity.

shame Trump Potted the first red otherwise would of been a 147 the beauty of his break building is the cannons he plays his one against Williams where he found an angle from no where in 2008 Worlds is testament to that

              • Well, both players had their chances, but Ronnie clinches it somehow and is within one of the victory.

                • I think everyone likes to see aggressive players, but for me the way Trump plays is ridiculous. He literally tries to bash every single vaguely pottable ball in at 100 miles an hour. He's damned good at it, that's for sure, but surely he needs to play the odd conservative shot.

Yeah...Trump seemed to lose focus at the end after failing to get position on the green. He still needs to mature in that particular area...

Edit : having said that, he did eventually play the snooker...so a positive sign.

                    • *sighs* If I hear much more talk of naughty snooker from pundits and commentators, I'm going to start watching footage with non-English commentary, thus allowing me to hear the click of the balls but not the idiotic references to something Judd said in ONE tournament, as a joke.

I agree on that...have always found it very annoying the way he just expects everything to go his way. Point in case...the failed position on the green. Sometimes you'll just have to admit to yourself that you just cannot expect everything to go 100%. Of course you'll be dissapointed...but we all know how important it is with this game to try to get over a "bad" shot asap and think positively ahead to the next shot/frame. It's just the nature of snooker.

I Wonder what Naughty snooker is in Mandarin or cantonese

I believe it's the same word they use for cliché, but I'm delighted to say I've no idea!
