    • Good final, not even close to a midnight finish in the end, it was way too fluent for anything like that tonight.

Nice to see Ding joining the winners this season, he got stronger as the match went on. Some of the shots in the last couple of frames were pretty special, and his breakbuilding was good throughout. He also never got outclassed by Selby tactically, he competed very well. It should be an interesting conclusion to the season for him, two more big Chinese events in the buildup to the World Championship.

Not sure I'm meant to respond to this... Of course my assessment of Selby's play has little to do with Baird's ranking. For me, it was unexpected to see him making three centuries and a couple of other good breaks tonight, because of the lack of one-visit snooker from him during the week. He struggled against Baird, made a couple of good breaks against Gould and Maguire, then struggled again against O'Sullivan. Some of it was down to bad luck, splits not going his way and such, but it was clear he was not at his fluent best.

There were a couple of mistakes from him today, but overall I think he played his best match of the week. He can play better still, but this could easily have been enough to win him the tournament on another day.

Anyway, looking forward to the World Open now.

      • Fun match to watch. Very high standard right up to the end.

Ding's win should bring in a few more million Chinese fans in time for the WC. lol

        • Excellent Form from Ding, iv never seen him so determined. Ding is a very nice chap, quiet and very humble, a real credit to the game.

And No, i`m not chinese LMAO

          • I agree WT wasn't on top form tonight! I have to respectfully disagree on Clive... for me he is the master of stating the obvious.

He rarely predicts a shot (he can't because he hasn't played the game to that level) and is continually stating things like "played it in such a way that he wouldn't leave it on" which is just hindsight commentary...if he'd predicted the shot then it might have more value.

He seems like a nice guy, i just prefer listening to the ex-professionals commentate.

            • Well, overall I'm pretty pleased with how the tournament went on, especially if you think that this tournament is degraded quite a lot recently amongst other ranking events.
In the end, Ding was within a ball of going out against Higgins, then a couple of colours against Lee, yet he managed to come back and win it all.
His determined play was somewhat what we saw from O'Sullivan and Maguire in Germany.

By the way, Ding has got an outrageous reaction on the cue ball in almost every one of his cannon shots. He may already be the best player in those right now.

Fantasy game results should be up perhaps this night and then, World Open comes!
Excited about Worlds even now (=

              • I just got back from the tournament. I saw Ding vs Lee, and the two semis and final. I enjoyed seeing Ding win the final. And sampling a few of the pubs in Newport of course.

Isn't predicting a shot stating the obvious? I've never played the game at pro level but 99 times out of 100 I know what they will play. Clive should be asked to give the ex pro's a few lessons, his commentary skills have been honed over many years and IMO is the best ever. Of the modern bunch only Terry Griffiths is worth listening to.

                  • I saw Eurosport more than I saw BBC Wales. Was Darren Morgan worth listening to as a commentator?

Lol sorry not you more a delayed reaction to reading too many daft post's somewhere else, but fluency and a trace of luck are often dependant on each other no matter what form a player's in :-)

Not really, players have different options and if you're a proficient player or former player/commentator you can give the viewer feedback, which is why I suspect Mike Smith Hendon and probably to a lesser extent Everton aren't very good players and are a tad dull covering airtime with extraneous generalizations.
