I thought I knew most of Hick's material and don;t recognise the "quote" - what's the provenance?

And you're making a crass generalisation that "lots of young women" equals all women.

It's from Rant In E Minor when Hicks is having a go at Billy Ray Cyrus whilst questioning womens attraction to drunken, cracker wife beaters. Could link to it but the content would get me banned as there's a lot of bad language.
I'm making a crass generalisation about crass young women, I think it fits the argument, the argument being that women seek the alpha male and can see him in many forms from the basic to the intellectual to the rich.
I'm not putting women down, they can't help themselves, it's a subconscious natural instinct same as seeking beauty in women is a natural instinct for men, we can't help ourselves either, but that doesn't make us smutty and it doesn't make women shallow, it's the way it is.

Cheers for the Hicks reference - I do recall "Let's hunt and kill Billy Ray Cyrus" but not that particular passage. I'll have to give it another listen.

I was going to continue the argument about crass generalisations, but since Alexa started it with the equally sweeping "Why with men does it always come down to smut", I shall leave the pair of you to it!

            Is this the one?

If you ask me, Alex should /never/ have missed that escape, the reason he did was, as the commentator said, he was playing a harder shot to avoid the in-off. The snooker by Doug was excellent, and he deserved the chance it gave him - pity he fluffed it really, must have been the pressure.

As for whether the match would have been better or worse with the miss rule, it's hard to say. I think many pro's today would have taken the free ball in that situation, the black was "easy" and the other balls were very well placed to clear up. So, even with the miss rule it might have played out exactly the same way.

That said, some would have taken the first 5 points and put Alex back in - it is the more cautious choice in todays game. I think it's fair enough in this situation because Alex really should not have missed that escape in the first place, and probably would not miss it a 2nd time.

So, with the miss rule it would have been "different" but I can't really say if it would have been better or worse, I suspect it depends on who you wanted to win.

The pelvis line may have been a "metaphor" but the rest is simply generalisation.

              ...snip..

Bernie Ecclestone with his now ex wife. Tell me what the attraction is for her for this billionaire, of course it's his great sense of humour, you know that thing that women always say is so important. Tell me what his attraction to her is for him, of course her caring and loving nature, that thing that men are always on the lookout for.
Give me a break and get real.
This might all be true, but while it's true of some, or even most, it's not true for all - thus generalization.

Some people will act based on a principle or belief, in direct opposition to these baser urges. That said, if you've read any Dawkins you'll probably be thinking .. ahh but those behaviours have evolutionary merit, and thus we're back to sqaure one - being controlled by our urges or our genes.

So, free will, or determinism, your choice.

Human beings have the intellect to override their basic instincts but have to understand themselves and the reasons for their choices first. So many people make the same mistakes over and over again just because they fail to recognise that their choices are not the choices of their conscious mind, but that of their unconscious instincts.
This is what Bill Hicks is saying in Rant In E Minor, he chooses as his subject the basest of society, the trailer park culture in the states, and asks why women are attracted to drunken wife beaters and move from one drunken wife beater to another, blaming themselves for their man's behaviour because they are without the understanding that the alpha male in their particular social circle is the drunken wife beater and that's the reason they are attracted to such a man.
This coincides with most womens natural submissiveness which attracts them to strong aggressive men and reaches its zenith in some ultra submissive women who write to condemned men on death row proposing marriage to blokes who are serial killers, murderers and rapists. Hicks mentions this also in a tirade about the Ted Bundy trial in the 1980's which was televised and where Bundy himself recieved proposals of marriage from such women.
Of course this behaviour is extreme, but Hicks dealt in extremes and used them to show us the realities of human behaviour.
So many people just didn't get him and he remained almost unknown in his own country but was a star in the UK the moment he got exposure. Sadly it wasn't to be for long and Rant In E Minor was to be his last performance, he knew it and pulled out all the stops and pulled no punches. The comedy of a misanthrope or a messiah who tried to change us ? listen to it, you will feel uncomfortable but enlightened.

The whole of the frame is on TYOTH dvd that I have and it's as good a frame of snooker that has ever been played. It contains everything from great pots, bad and good run, snookers and escapes and free balls. Both players were positive in their choices which would have been very different if the miss rule had been in place back then.
I will try to upload it myself, could take a while as I'm not a computer geek, bear with me.

I'm familiar with the material you're referring to, and am a big Bill Hicks fan, however, I think you're missing a basic point of logic.

Yes, Ted Bundy received some marriage proposals. Would all women want to go off with Ted Bundy once they knew he was a murderer? I would have thought probably not. As you say yourself this phenomenon "reaches its zenith in some ultra submissive women who write to condemned men on death row proposing marriage to blokes who are serial killers, murderers and rapists".

Therefore, you accept that women have different standards and modes of behaviour.

Therefore, you cannot assume that every woman alive would automatically sleep with Bernie Ecclestone just because he's loaded. And providing evidence that he had an attractive wife does not mean that all attractive women would go for him, or all women of any level of attractiveness.

Therefore, to say to someone "if Beckham or Torres or even Bernie Ecclestone made a pass at you, you'd open your legs so fast you'd come close to breaking your pelvis" could be considered somewhat inflammatory, even if it was intended as a joke!

I'm a Hicks fan myself, though I have only seen his performances via youtube and it was a few years back now.

I wonder what hairstyle Michaela will have for the final? Will she do what she did last time and have four different styles, one for each session?
