  • The best thing which can happen to Hendry in session 2 is Bingham wins a few frames and Stephen gets over the line in a sloppy manner , say 10-5

If he wins 2 frames straight out with centuries, i fear he will get too overconfident and will get down on himself when he can't reproduce that form against Higgins

He needs to be able to gut out the scrappy frames to beat Higgins

At least now he has the belief that his best is still good enough to win, but he needs to realise that his best won't always be there

He needs to rewatch Davis beating Higgins a few years ago and how few high breaks Davis made to beat him

      I would argue the opposite.

Hendry's always been a "confidence player". His problem over the past few years has been a lack of confidence through losing too many matches to players he should beat. If he can demolish Bingham 10-1 or 10-2 he might start to feel like the Hendry of old.

If he gets over the line "in a sloppy manner" (as you say) I fear he will just revert to "normal" - that is, the Hendry of recent years. That Hendry won't beat Higgins, in my opinion.

A sensational victory is just what he needs, and hopefully that's what he'll get tomorrow.

      • Missed all of today's action but catching up on the BBC.

All I can say is wow from Steven Hendry. The guy is an absolute snooker legend. Would be amazing if he could pull off one last W.C and bow out in style.

        • What do they do in terms of ticket prices for a session (finish of Hendry and Robertson's matches) which is likely to be very short ?

They should have Davis and White on stand by for an exhibition

I was there when he made his 2 breaks to win 13 12 vs Selby in Quarter Finals of 2009, the year after I saw Carter Murphy go 13 12 too in Quarters, been lucky with the matches I've seen, cant see Hendry winning vs Higgins, would love it, but as much as I adored today from the great man, I can't see him playing that well again, and surely Higgins will get better? If that win doesnt give him confidence then nothing will!

A decider in the evening session, and still no midnight finish. But I can't complain, it was good entertainment throughout. I'm sure Higgins will only get better now that he's survived the 1st round. He could have easily gone out though, because it was in Liang's hands at one point.

Good stuff from Cao as well to lead Allen 5-4 overnight. But I'm sure Allen will be quite relieved, it wasn't looking good at all at 5-2.
well said, Allen will feel like he got out of jail a bit, surely he'll be able to play better tomorrow and put Cao under some genuine pressure in a close match!!

ticket price is ticket price, u could see one frame, u could see 8, see my post below about going to the quarters in 2 successive years, I planned that by looking at the draw and going to a Quarter Final I wanted to see, and got lucky they both went 8 all and 9 7 and went all the way, luck of the draw, u pay ur money, and take ur chances!

                • Well day 2 underway...I'm very curious to see how young Luca Brecel will fair on his first ever day at the WC. Looking forward to today's matches...

                    • Maguire looks like he's playing solid there, would like to see Brecel knock a couple of those long ones in :snooker:

                          • Impressed enough with Brecel so far, should have made more of his chance but he has decent to good shot selection, has a bizarre trait where he doesnt address the cue ball, just gets down and hits the ball, I saw him address the ball once earlier, very interesting stuff though, hope he knocks a couple of breaks in!!
