Having an opinion and voicing it is all fair game, but you have to be respectful at the same time. I feel this time his comment on chinese players is going too far. But as you say, ignoring him would ultimately be the best solution. Not giving him credit whatsoever for the stupid things he says, would be the most annoying result for him. Unfortunately this doesn't work in the media-culture we live in.

Hopefully he will apologize and that will be the end of it. He might learn something as well, maybe Terry Griffiths could have some fatherly advice for him...

      • I have a tremendous sinking feeling watching Hendry in this session! Surely he can't blow this??!

        • Where's that bloke who was playing Bingham yesterday gone? You know, the one who made that brilliant maximum?

There's a difference between actually respecting and showing respect. You don't have to respect an opinion or a people, but you generally need to (and obliged to) show respect.
I don't think punishment is going to be noteworthy. Just a letter of warning, perhaps.
            All the way Mark J!!

            • Totally different person turned up today...weird how things can change. But hey...this is the reason why we need the longer-frame matches in snooker!!! Barry Hearn...pay attention.

Jet-lag affect is gone, I guess. Hendry is playing at a quite subpar level.

to warn him what - technically i doubt he has broken any rules. i don't think it's wise to draw attention to the little things the players say, look what happened with alex higgins.

                  • I should imagine there's a bit of slight relief there for Hendry, getting he's first frame of the evening on the board!!

                    • Punish him for what? I thought there is a zero-tolerance towards racism is all sport. Clearly this does not apply to the race of Chinese or to snooker then. Regardless of individual incidents, it is NEVER right to taint one group (race, sex etc.) with the same brush. There are always variations in whatever population. You simply cannot say one race cheats. Further to his previous less-than-flattering comments about China (the country), and now these comments about the people surely confirms that he is just a plain racist.

                          • Robertson and Hendry over the line within 10 minutes. Classic Hendry shaking his head when he loses position for getting the century.

                            • so both matches end with the same scoreline and speed

a bit of an anti climax

so tomorrow the tie of the round

                              slow against fast
                              cycle against car
                              bald against hair
                              force against rocket

                              • This match was a reverse of the situation for Hendry in the first round in 1998 when White won the first session 8-1, Hendry then won the first three frames of the second session to take the score to 8-4 before White won the last two to win the match 10-4.
