  • Most people said Bingham would win before the match. I said Hendry would. But even I wouldn't have expected that scoreline. 10-4 over a top 16 player? Superb performance.

Hendry V Higgins at the Crucible - at last!

Can´t believe it. I saw the black ball fall and then left the room. When I´m read this thread now, I just realised that Allen had gone in-off LOL. No matter how it was done, a great result from Cao Yupeng. I had expected Allen to get very deep into this tournament. His quotes are hopefully given in the heat of the moment, ´cos that´s really a bad loser attitude and unacceptable.

      • Mark Allen certainly has his demons doesn't he? Hard to feel sorry for someone who made such a sweeping generalisation.

I haven't seen the incident but it does pose an interesting question on snooker etiquette that I'd like to hear your opinions on:

If (during a match), I've just played a shot that I suspect/think/fear may have been a push shot but am not 100% sure (for instance if I mis-cued) then should I call a foul on myself, or should I ask the referee?

Am not trying to stick up for Cao here, if he really did make a push-shot then he should have called it on himself. But, if he was unsure, given the obvious language barrier what should he have done?

        • When you're not sure, then I would suggest letting the ref make the final decision. Ultimately it's the ref's decision, and the players will need to abide by the (non) decision made...even when you are convinced like Allen says he was. Although I strongly suspect this...he just cannot be 100% sure from where he was! And if in doubt, then again, let the ref make the decision. That's my opinion.

Oh and if you should decide to criticise anyone afterwards, criticise the ref...not the player...unless you are absolutely 100% dead certain *and* you have the proof on video to back it up!

You should only call a foul on yourself if you're 100% sure it is a foul (which is obvious usually, anyway).

If you're not sure, you should check with the referee. In Cao's defence, he did look at the referee (which would constitute "checking").

Ultimately, it's the referee's job to call fouls.

Good point. Whether it was a foul or not, Allen must have eagle eyes to spot it from his seat, when both Cao and the referee didn't spot it at the table!

Seems like we are in total agreement on this one

A real shame about Allen venting his dissapointment in a disrespectful way. He really needs to grow-up.

                • Let's say Allen is right - Cao was being dishonest. Then why would he LOOK at the referee after the shot??
Surely, if he was cheating he would not look at the referee and give away his crime!

Yeah, good point. I'm guessing it's a combination of him not being sure about the foul, and the language barrier (like 'Tred' said as well), that made him look at the ref. And then it's the ref's decision...at which point it's a done-deal. Shake it off and move on Allen!

                    • Anyway, enough of Cry Baby Allen...

I'm calling it now - Hendry v Maguire Quarter Final!

                      • Looking forward to the 2nd half of the Maguire - Brecel match tomorrow morning. Would be great to see Luca make a real battle of it. Anyway, having the day off from work so I'll be watching all the matches. Another great day ahead, I'm sure.

bit of a step to say he is a rascist! a muppet yes, rascist might be taking the pc thing a bit far!

                          • If Cao Yupeng wins his next match he stays on the Tour and Barry Pinches is relegated.

                              Totally agree.

Allen got stuffed. Now he's acting like a plonker.

I've had enough of his jabby little cue action anyway!

                              • It's one thing Joe public making a comment

But a sportsman making a comment about a sporting organisation he is part of is a different kettle of fish and all players would have had to sign some kind of code of conduct contract

Otherwise where would it end ?

Ebdon shouting out how Ronnie's wife is a slut and he'd like to ass r*pe her ? It's just his public thoughts

hell no, all sports have strict code of conduct, and bringing the game into disrepute is a big no no
