It's mainly about getting table time. I've seen a lot more experienced players do that at times.
That said, carrying on with 4 snookers needed isn't something absurd. Balls were placed nicely to go for it, after all.

if it's first frame I can understand it, if it's after that even if the balls are good then I think it's a bit much, 3 at most is the most players should carry on for realistically

Hearn and the board wont be happy, they're in a mess now, if they discipline Allen like say 6 month ban, the game suffers, if they do nothing then they're seen (rightfully so), as soft, if they slap a big fine then it's not enough, it's a no win situation, all publicity is good publicity I think, I feel sorry for the board on this issue, stupid comments by Allen have put them in a right hole now. . .

me too, Jones is a very good player by all accounts, if anyone can win a match like that it's Murphy, still quite confident come crunch time Murphy will do enough, and like Higgins last year, it doesnt matter how you win, just that you do!!
