First of all, he doesn't have any kind of cue ball control comparable to players you mentioned. And secondly, he's disliked because he's arrogant.
    Yes, arrogant and unsporting.

If Selby goes out tonight, the 2nd and 4th quarters will be a disaster. Everyone loves an underdog or two, but too many players who don't have a realistic chance of winning the title are not good for the later rounds.
Out of Cao Yupeng, Ryan Day, Jamie Jones and Andrew Higginson, two will reach the quarters and get thrashed.
Actually, Robertson looks good for the final. Selby and Williams could have coped with him, but if Selby goes out and Williams can't get past O'Sullivan, I can't see O'Sullivan winning against Robertson's grinding style.

Wouldnt anyone be slightly arrogant if they'd become one of the best players in the world with shed loads of talent and a chance to get into the record books in due course (which not all players can achieve greatness) if they were that good? He plays a confident attacking game, how do you know if he's arrogant? It's part of being a pro sportsman at the top of a sport to be confident and state ur confidence!
How do I know it? When he goes out and says his opponent is lucky to win against him, I know that he is arrogant. When he says no word wishing him luck for the next match, I know that he is arrogant.
He's one of the best. But there are very good players that are capable of taking him out at any point and maybe with the exception of Mark Allen, no one is showing such slight arrogance you think of as a common trait.

          • The less said about Chuang's break building there the better, perfect on the blue, had a red as backup to be on, then played his backup red and got wrong side of blue, like stated in commentary, he couldn't win the frame without splitting the pack, he's a modern player he KNOWS what to do surely!?? Amateurish from him, I take it the match hasnt been high quality, has anyone on here being watching it??

yeah Neil does, if ur gonna have money on anyone I'd have had it on Ronnie, Higgins or Robertson, if one of those dont reach the final then something's wrong!! Robertson is pure class and he never gives up, all that needs to be said about Higgins and Ronnie has been said before, they're both well capable of winning it!

He showed great mental strength against Ebdon, but also, offered him a lot of chances. To be honest, if Ebdon played somewhat decent, not great, that match would have been a lot closer.
As you said, he needs to improve (=

If he's there mentally he doesnt have to play out of his skin, it's only when he's mentally fragile that he needs to be brilliant, he needs to play quality matchplay snooker, score a century and 3 or 4 breaks of 60 to have a very good chance, which is nothing that special for him, could be very close if that match happens!!

What about Maguire? I tipped him to win something months ago and he's still empty-handed.
If he somehow make it past Higgins, he has the game to counter Trump. Could really win it all from there on.

                    • Anyway, we're getting carried away a bit here (=
Lots of matches to be played before these match-ups become a reality. Or not, of course.

I got my lesson when seven seeded players fell victim to the qualifiers by the first week (=

When players say I feel good I believe I can win is that not arrogant??? He knows he doesnt need luck, he believes he can win no matter what, he could beat most players with his B game, Allen needs to keep his mouth shut and play the game, he's a great player who is confident and will state he can win, which I think player's need to feel that way, arrogance either by showing it or feeling like ur invincible is part of pro sport, all people have it when they swagger round the table playing well and buzzing, just not everyone shows it, what's wrong with showing how u feel? At least Trump doesnt "do an Allen" and damage his reputation and the game, sure it's good the for game the controversy but the tournament would survive without it.

Trump's very young, aren't nearly all young players like that when they first break through in most sports? He'll likely settle down in later years, and if he plays well I love watching him play, I'll join him for the ride so to speak!!

What about him? He's so fragile mentally, he's won tournaments before but only when he's playing great, I'd rather have money on Williams for the tourney rather than Maguire, he doesnt have a B game, if he's not playing great he gets very annoyed, and tends to play pretty poor, either in safety or scoring, either way he doesnt have a solid B game that will last him 3 or 4 sessions in my opinion

                          • good stuff Mark Williams, very pro job, see u in the next round all being well, another player who needs to be in the tourney for the good of it, he's just so classy and makes the game look SOOO easy, love watching him play!!

Fair point. It's a pity, though. His A-game is well above compared to the players from his generation. He actually has a B game. But not a C one, I guess.
Ryan Day is the one who doesn't even have the B. He is either fantastic or dreadful.

                              • Anyone else think the tournament has been a bit... flat, so far? I know there have been a few suprise knockouts and Hendrys 147 but I can't really get into it as yet. Hopefully the 2nd round matches will be more interesting.
