Ronnie, Higgins and Hendry?? Lol, you really have some imagination to draw such a comparison.
First of all, he doesn't have any kind of cue ball control comparable to players you mentioned. And secondly, he's disliked because he's arrogant.

Justified arrogance then, the way Trump plays is the reason why people love snooker.

And snooker's far too unpredictable for anyone to maintain that the top or the bottom half of any given draw is "easier".

I will be AMAZED if Trump doesn't make the semi's. I can't see Higginson/Carter or whoever beating Trump in a long match.

Anyone else think the tournament has been a bit... flat, so far? I know there have been a few suprise knockouts and Hendrys 147 but I can't really get into it as yet. Hopefully the 2nd round matches will be more interesting.

Not flat but I can see where you are coming from. The tournament hasn't really taken off with any really good performances from both players, I think that has been whats lacking. Not one player is standing out as the 'man to beat' which makes the field open and I think that is why so many are struggling. I think they are all aware that its open and that is adding to the pressure. You could make a case for every player who has won as having a chance of going far. I think the 2nd round matches with the exception of maybe one or two being very close. I still think we are in for a very nervy run of matches throughout which will probably mean it will still feel a bit flat. I don't think this event will come to life until the 1/4 finals, all being well the top seeds, i.e Higgins, Maguire, Trump, Ronnie, Robertson make it through. Doubt Selby is playing well enough to make it past Hawkins so I'm ruling him out.

it's the first round thing, the tournament REALLY starts for me in the second round, this is why I want at a max 4 qualifiers through so loads of big names play each other, like the players think, the tourney starts then!

no me either, he'll cobble something together, of course it doesnt matter how u play, just that u win, something will kick in, that bit of class, if he needs it, that's IF he's not playing great anyway! Meanwhile COME ON SELBY!!!

he gets a lot of people talking about and watching the game, if he went out the tournament would really lose something, its not often you see someone so outrageously talented, once a generation or less, last one like him was Ronnie and look what he's done (and he could and maybe should have done more in the game!!

Holy crap...does phil yates *ever* shut his trap? Unbelievable! Takes away much of my viewing enjoyment, I have to say. In desperation switched over to the Dutch/Belgian commentary...

Hoping Mark can close the gap soon...so we could maybe have a somewhat tense match and maybe close finish.
