Lack of preparations broke his rhythm and he was unable to settle from the beginning.
Not that Hawkins isn't someone capable of beating Selby, but definitely he would need a much better performance than that.

Great shot Ali carter! Think that was a 49 break? Ref is so scottish I can't tell when he says 40 something or 30 something which is which, great win Barry Hawkins, very surprising score too, meanwhile Carter is seemingly grinding out a good result from this session so far!

If Selby goes out tonight, the 2nd and 4th quarters will be a disaster. Everyone loves an underdog or two, but too many players who don't have a realistic chance of winning the title are not good for the later rounds.

In 2005 there were two underdogs in the semifinals, and the lowest ranked player ended as world champion, so never say never, but I can´t really see beyond Robertson, Higgins, O´Sullivan or Trump with the players left.

you are aware that carter moved out of the sixteen in china right? bingham could do with carter and higginson going out in second round

its actually the 3rd time in world championship history that a non top sixteen player has been seeded i believe (murphy and griffiths being the other two)
