Yes, but then again, after Stevens, Day, Cao and Hawkins ended up as the only players left in the whole quarter, every one of them knows that they will never have a better chance to go far in the tournament.

      That's a good point (=
Also, knowing that their semi-final opponent is going to be decided between Williams, O'Sullivan and Robertson, I don't know what kind of mentality they will have going into that match. But still, plenty of time before even quarter-final lineup takes its final shape.
      All the way Mark J!!

I wouldnt say Day is one of my faves, but I know a great player on his day, Ryan is one of those, u dont get to 2 ranking event finals and top 8 in the world if you're an average top 16 player, top 8 is for elite only, Day not incredible on his B game, has decent safety game, there are better players on their B game but he's competent, has all the shots and the knowledge needed, remember that they're arent THAT many pros who are capable of producing pure top form on TV, in majors, lots of pros get to tournaments play decent and lose, not many play brilliant and get to 2 ranking finals and top 8 and compete with the best, as opposed to being cannon fodder to them like some players ranked 48 to 64 for example

Days only two wins against O´Sullivan has come in the last two matches they´ve played against each other. But I doubt those three mentioned has the bottle to go all the way. Once and a while Day plays some of the best snooker, but it looks like he has serious trouble getting over the line.

That´s the standard argument from fans whenever he loses.

If Ronnie's mind isn't focused on snooker that's his own problem, it doesnt mean anything to his opponent who are out there to just do a job and get to the target number of frames before he does, I'd never back Hawkins, Stevens, or Day vs Ronnie in this tournament, especially after first round, so would expect Ronnie to win, but it's not like those 3 dont have the ability, who would have thought that Davis could beat Higgins a couple of years ago? Not many, but Davis did, and when all's said and done, self belief inspires others, Davis made me, and others around him, fans and the media, suddenly believe that Davis COULD beat Higgins, the way the match shaped up

he's always had it, as u say the 3 mentioned only have it sometimes, and I always get the feeling in a situation to win the match that they'd miss, especially at the Worlds!

People tend to forget how incredible he can be when he gets his A game on the table. I remember him playing a 97% percentage match back then, with quite a lot of long pots taken also.
He's the underdog, so no pressure is on him to go further than he already did.
Yes people do tend to forget. Like Mark Williams for example. There was at one point I thought he could dominate the noughties until his form slipped and then the journalists singled him out.

Between 1996 (his first ranking title) and 2003 (his second World title), Williams won 15 ranking events and his success eclipsed even the likes of Higgins and O'Sullivan during that period. But lack of practice took its toll eventually and he had a dip in form.
Despite eyesight worsening by years and due to that his long game deteriorating a bit, his game is still up there to take out anyone in the tour.
