  • Stephen Maguire v Joe Perry

This match is well into the second session now, and still no thread...

Maguire looking pretty go so far, except for that trademark frustration shot in the third frame of the session.

I might be wrong but I think a lot of people find Perry a bit of a dull player to watch? Certainly, that's been my impression over the years. He's a perfectly competent player who occasionally scores heavily, but he seem to be a little tedious in the way he goes about his business.

Anyway, MUST WIN frame for Perry now.

I was hoping for a Maguire win with a session to spare, but I'm content with this result.

He's certainly done the business, a 6-2 session for him. I can't see him losing the match now. There have only been a couple of defeats from 11-5 up in the history of the game, and Maguire doesn't usually struggle when he is on top.

I think Joe Perry has missed quite a few chances to take frames which he has thrown away

Nervy start from Maguire, Perry wasn't that far from getting back to 8-11. Tough to see him winning from here though, too much to do.

Maguire does the business. He's got through the first two rounds fairly comfortably, and he surely has to start favourite in the QF as well.

Maguire is going to prove to be a real handful for anyone. If he can keep his temper in check, and play with the same confidence he has shown against Perry he has as good as chance of anyone this year in winning the title. It's when things dont go his own way that the cracks appear and is vulnerable..
